At&t To Shut Down Its 2G Network Within 5 Years

At&t is reportedly planning to cut support of it’s older 2g wireless network by the year 2017. So what about those with older generation mobile phones that aren’t compatible with 3G?

Well it seems that At&t plans on whether it be nicely or otherwise making you switch to a newer device if you want to continue using their network.

WSJ Reports:

The telecom giant said about 12% of its contract wireless customers were using 2G handsets at the end of June, but it will work “proactively” in coming years to move them to more advanced devices. Like the other major carriers, AT&T’s customers mostly use phones with third-generation technology, and it is aggressively rolling out a nationwide fourth-generation network.
