The notification system on iOS 5 is by far one of the best improvements that Apple made to iOS demo version 4. The cool drop down bar at the top of the screen and a list of alerts in your notification centre, make iOS 5 that little bit cooler than not just previous versions of iOS but also other operating platforms.
Sometimes you get a bundle of alerts from different apps and wouldn’t it be nice if you were able to tell them apart from each other, without looking, just by the sound of the alert that comes through? Well now you can, PushTone has been released into the Cydia store and does exactly just that. It allows you to customise what sound is played for the alerts of all your push-enabled apps, via selecting sounds from your ringtone library. The tweak is customised via the Notifications app in settings, allowing you to chose any of your tones for alerts. All you have to do is go to one of the apps that has push notifications and select it, scroll to the bottom and an extra bar ‘pushtone’ will be added – that’s it, ready for new tones!
The tweak doesn’t add any icons to your home screen, however it does place an options bar in the settings app allowing you to enable or disable the tweak.
PushTone is available from the Cydia store for $1.99, try it out and tell us what you think in the comments section bellow.
