It is being reported that Apple is coming up with a new and improved iPhone 4 with a faster processor, better camera, etc.. Basically they’re pulling a 3g/3gs stunt while holding off their iphone 5 release until 2012.
The only problem we have is this new iPhone 4S is supposed to have an embedded sim card and maybe no sim card at all..

Referencing an earlier prediction by DigiTimes that Apple will release an 8MP device with a Qualcomm chipset with production beginning in August, Macotakara offers more information from an anonymous source.
This reported product by DigiTimes is improved model of iPhone 4 on same form factor, and uses ARM Cortex-A9 chip as CPU, but it is not confirmed whether this model has single CPU or with dual CPU’s.
Important improved points of this “iPhone 4S” are 8 megapixel camera, SIM-less in order to integrate AT&T with Verizon Wireless, and additional 3-4 antennas inside. Apple’s major new handset iPhone 5 under development seems to be released 2012 spring.

I don't know if sim-less iPhone's are the way forward. It would isolate the iphone market to true owners of the phone. E.g. you woudlnt be able to sell your old iphone as it would be locked to one person. Plus, think of how many people would not want to have to use their phone all the time. i.e. some people have a spare crappy phone that they take on holiday. Doesn't seem like it's a good plan Apple!
