Dev Team Releases PwnageTool 3.1.5

February 07, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone Dev-Team has released PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X which lets some iPhones upgrade safely to the 3.1.3 firmware.

Using PwnageTool to upgrade will preserve your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. If you are using the blacksn0w unlock at baseband 05.11.07 you will need to stay at 3.1.2.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak. Read more…

Earthquake Survivor Says iPhone Helped Save His Life

January 20, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

“Usually, when someone says their iPhone is a life saver, they are talking about the phone helping them find a good takeout spot or an emergency bathroom,” Todd Wright reports for NBC Miami.

“When Dan Woolley says it, he really means it. He used a medical app saved on his phone to treat a leg injury after the Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince collapsed around him,” Wright reports. “Woolley, who is from Colorado Springs, is one of the Americans who survived the massive earthquake that hit Haiti last week, and he did it with an iPhone application. Woolley is now recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, but it was his fast actions with the app that may have saved his life.” Read more…

Burglars Stealing From LA Apple Store Customers

I better be careful next time I walk out of my Apple Store here in Santa Monica — apparently burglars are targeting Apple Store customers here in the Los Angeles area. Over 100 customers have apparently been targeted after leaving the store and keeping a computer or other purchase in their car. The thieves wait for customers to walk away from Apple Store bags in their car, either at home or at another store, and then they break in and take them. For some reason, no computers have yet been returned, either, which makes cops think that they’re possibly being “shipped out of the country or fenced right away.” But of course that would require an organized ring, and police aren’t even sure these are all related yet. As the iPhone becomes more and more popular to the world there is no doubt that jailbreaking the iphone has also gotten very popular. As a matter of fact jailbreaking the iphone has gotten so popular it has been featured on many reputable websites such as cnet.com, tuaw.com, and the list goes on. My point is that jailbreaking the iphone is allowing us the users to be able to do more than we could have imagined whether it be making our iphone a wireless router, to allowing us to make voip calls using skype and 3g unrestrictor.

Now that you know where jailbreaking the iphone is going we can speak of cydia and the business aspect of jailbreaking. For you the user jailbreaking is to get all of the goods but for developers it is like a gold mine with a lot of revenue potential. A year ago you had to purchase an application from cydia by downloading an app and paying the developer however he wanted you to pay whether it was through paypal or some other payment type.
