Years ago, when the Blackberry started gaining traction among business users, people found themselves using the device so much that the nickname “Crackberry” was invented to describe how addicting the device was. According to a recent survey of 200 Stanford University students, the iPhone is just as addictive as the Blackberry, if not more so. Since many of us spend more time texting on our iPhones than we spend actually having conversations on them, perhaps there is a sizable audience of iPhone owners who will find value in the new TigerText application.

The word “Tiger,” of course, is likely invoked here as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the golf pro recently embarrassed before a global audience for his private-turned-public marital infidelities.

The Ivy League brain-trust from Stanford University is trying to tell us something we already know, but with the backing of a formal survey to provide additional credibility. It turns out the iPhone is actually quite “habit forming.”

Nearly one-third of the two-hundred Stanford University undergraduates polled for this survey expressed fears that their iPhone is not only addictive, but that they could already be clinically addicted to their beloved smartphone. There’s a huge world of creative, crafty people on Etsy.com, and we’re always hearing about new Mac or iPhone-related products that have been developed.

The latest, by Etsy shop owner and artist “PlayingGrownUp,” is the cool iPhone Chalkboard (US$25.00 plus shipping), The chalkboard is hand cut and painted to look just like the iPhones that Mom and Dad use. An iPhone can be an expensive investment, and given that its users generally carry their phones everywhere, damage from dropping, stepping on, running over and flushing iPhones are more common than warranty-related problems. And no warranty can protect you from theft. As a result many users have looked for third party insurance to try and protect themselves from loss.

Worth Avenue Group garnered a lot of attention at this year’s MacWorld with their booth featuring a man methodically smashing iPhones with a hammer. According to Chris Holt at Macworld.com, they claim to cover the iPhone comprehensively, whether it has been dropped, stolen, or submerged in water or beer. • Copy it to var/mobile on your iphone and install using ifile or do the following
• Open Mobile terminal
• Type in su (press return)
• Type in alpine (press return)
• Type in dpkg -i mywi.deb (press return)
• Reboot or Respring and enjoy

Pegatron Technology has reportedly landed a contract to produce next generation iPhones for Apple, according to a DigiTimes report.

The company will join Foxconn Electronics which manufactures current iPhones for Apple.

Pegatron declined to comment, although it stated in previous reports that it expects its shipments of handsets to grow substantially in 2010.

DigiTimes also notes that Pegatron reached a deal with Microsoft to produce its Xbox 360 Natal Controller in late 2010.

Zhenzhen police raided a fake iPhone workshop in Huaqiangbei taking twenty eight people into custody, according to Shenzhen Daily.

Seven people were arrested by police and more than 1,000 iPhones and 6,000 phone batteries were confiscated.

Apple officials expressed their appreciation for the officers’ “commendable” efforts.

In early January, police were notified that Chuanglida Communication Tech Co was operating the illegal workshop in the Modern World Window Mansion. Inside there was a clear division of work including accessory purchase, assembly and sales. During the inspection retailers were seen queuing to pick up merchandise.

Each counterfeit iPhone sells for 500 yuan (US$74) in Huaqiangbei, significantly cheaper than 5,000 yuan for the genuine product.
