Bypass the UDID registration on mac and windows 7.
I don’t know if you can do the same on xp or any other version of windows but i’m guessing that just blocking itunes to access the internet during the update process of the iphone to 3.0 will work.
Windows Vista or Windows 7 Users
1.Click on start
2.type in “Search programs and files” firewall.
3.Try to find windows firewall
with Advanced Security if you are in windows 7 otherwise try to get on the advanced settings of windows firewall.
4.Create a new outgoing rule that blocks iTunes.exe from using the internet.
5.Enjoy
This will just stop iTunes from accessing the internet which prevents it from checking if ur UDID is on the Developer List.
After doing that you can unblock it and use itunes with the internet but if you connect your iphone be sure to block itunes access to the internet.
Mac Users
1. Disconnect the internet once you plug in ur iPhone

I updated with 3.0 the second it came out thinking I could follow these steps and it would work…well, it didn't. I turned off my internet (pretty much doing the same thing as blocking on firewall?) and then restored with the 3.0 update. Everything looked fine, the phone rebooted and my iPhone was in recovery mode (plug into iTunes screen). It was already connected and iTunes so I disconnected and reconnected my iPhone and iTunes gave an error message about not being connected to the internet. I turn my internet back on and a message on iTunes appears saying something to the effect of, "Your device is not registered with our program. Please login to the Developer Center and add this device to your UDID list." FUCK! I freaked out. There was NO restore option. I had to call into work and spend the better part of the day searching online for answers but since 3.0 had just been released it was hard finding instructions on what to do…I did finally an article on how to restore if your phone is stuck in recovery mode and after several restores and jailbreakings, my iPhone is back to normal. Bottom line: DON'T UPDATE TO 3.0 BETA IF YOU'RE NOT A DEV. ASKING FOR TROUBLE. Just my opinion

Yes you have a good point, restoring and trying to figure out how to fix your iphone is a pain. Although for some people who know what they are doing, this is a very easy process although I do miss my jailbroken apps, 3.0 is working great and im loving it. Anyhow like you said if you aren't that tech saavy and know some basic programming don't try this.

How do you use a firmware with three parts to it?
April 2nd, 2009 at 12:01 am
It worked !! I succesfully installed the iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 downloaded from this site on my iPod Touch 2G. It's great !
You just have to unplug Internet EVERYTIME you plug your iPod/iPhone to your computer.
Thank you SoSly

You just download all three parts and open the archive with winrar or winzip. then just drag and drop the firmware that is inside anywhere on your computer

The only thing I miss… is my jailbroken apps… is there a way to… pwn the OS 3.0 beta 2, actually ?

I don't know, I think I read somewhere that the tech saavy people can use the pwnage tool bundles to do it but honestly I doubt it. Your best bet is ipod touch forums, google that and look around there.

so on macs u just disconnect the internet b4 u restore

You would actually download the file and click shift/option + Update not restore and your phone will stay activated, and you won’t have to disconnect from the internet. Other than that if you do the shift/option + restore you will leave it connected to the net until it says finished and it reboots your phone, then you would disconnect your phone and yes you have to do that everytime you sync your phone to itunes
