SlingPlayer Coming to AppStore, As Soon As Tonight?

May 13, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

.

One of the most anticipated app for the iPhone is SlingMedia’s SlingPlayer, rumored to be rejected by Apple due to issues with AT&T, seems to be finally making its way to the store in as little as 24 hours!

Multiple trusted sources have reported that Apple will be getting this app online today itself! AppleInsider also called a SlingMedia spokesperson to confirm. The twist is… Apple has limited the app to the iPhone 3G’s Wi-Fi capabilities ONLY, which means NO 3G!

That sounds like a crazy decision and AT&T might be the one responsible for it. Maybe they don’t want their developing 3G network to be hit by thousands of people streaming videos… yet the other details of the app seems to be quite positive.

The app will support not only the current models (SlingBox PRO, SOLO, and PRO-HD) but the older ones as well, including Classic, AV and tuner. This will be a delight for the late upgraders! Many might not be happy with the speculated pricetag though – $29.99. It’s bound to be a great app – if the rumors are true – and we hope it doesn’t have any first release flaws like many.

TomTom Coming To iPhone

May 12, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

That’s the story being floated over at GPSReview, who know a lot more about the Amsterdam GPS marketplace than we do. They say that TomTom’s the likely hire behind this ad:

If they are just now hiring an iPhone developer we are going to venture a guess that it won’t be ready for the 3.0 launch in June. But we like the competition!

May 10, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

.

Cydia for 3.0 is finally here! Currently the only way to get Cydia 3.0 on your device is to jailbreak with a newly modified QuickPwn.
This new custom QuickPwn is compliments of HoZy, lilstevie, saurik, and iphoneappsru. This QuickPwn includes all bundles needed to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, iPhone, and iPod 1G.

Downloads:

QuickPwn Beta5 with Cydia

QuickPwn Beta5 with Cydia

Launch QuickPwn and jailbreak!

Attention iPhone 3G upgraders:

If you upgrade to 3.0, it will change your baseband and yellowsnow unlock will be non-functional. Furthermore, as of now you will not be able to downgrade your baseband unless you are on a 5.08 bootloader and be stuck without a soft unlock.

I haz put together instructions to troubleshoot common problems in my out of control huge Firmware 3.0 jailbreak thread. If you have any problems during the jailbreak, there are many helpful people who have gone thru a couple beta jailbreaks now and can help you out. There is also information there about MMS, Tethering, Theming, App Compatibility list, and many more mods.

Enjoy!

3G Fuzzyband Downgrader, Downgrade any baseband with a simple click of a button!

May 10, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

.

This wonderful GUI Baseband downgrader was created by w1kedZ (coding) & DHowett (GUI). It is based on the exploit in the 5.08 bootloader found by geohotz. So yes you must have the 5.08 bootloader for this to work. The beautiful part about this tool is that it will check your bootloader for you.

The way the tool works:

1. It verifies your bootloader version and displays it before attempting to downgrade (won’t attempt if bootloader isn’t 5.08) so it is much safer than other methods.

2. It detects current baseband version, and the patches accordingly…this means it will downgrade any baseband from 2.30 to 4.26.08 (beta 5)

It is available now on the BigBoss Repo. Look for 3G Fuzzyband Downgrader.

Enjoy!

Is Apple Making A Game Console??

May 09, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

.

I think the whole “Apple buying Twitter” rumor floating around is about as much of a crock as the “Apple buying EA” one. But I give slightly more credence to this conclusion: that, despite the painful experience of Pippin, Apple is once again putting together a game console. Why? Let the evidence from BNET convince you.

First, Apple is picking up game execs and console chip makers left and right. Second is a whole slew of recent patents, for everything from mixing up media and game environments to management of games acquired from a media server. And third, though BNET doesn’t actually connect the dots and say it, we will: Apple is sitting on what might be the best library of independent games anywhere, and it’s sitting right in front of us in iTunes’ App Store.

For years, console makers have depended on the mercy of publishers to keep their hardware going — they sell the hardware at a loss, and then rely on the software sales and licensing to make it all back up again. But think of what Apple could do here: improve the AppleTV or Mac Mini, throw in some kind of Wii-like interface, and then break the whole thing open in the same way they did with the App Store: let developers in with a really low cost of entry, give them the tools they need to create solid games, and just take a nice cut from all of the tiny transactions flowing back and forth.

BNET claims that the iPhone’s interface wouldn’t work on a larger console, but why not? All Apple has to do is figure out a way to translate the iPhone’s gestures and taps into a console system, and then they can practically run the games natively. Sure, the resolution would be a little low with a straight port, but that’s a small problem to fix. Apple already has the makings of a game console with the iPod touch, and while the rumors may still just be rumors, there’s never been a better time for them to leverage what they’ve already got.

Via Xsellize

Ok if apple makes a gaming console and somehow manages to make something that lets you play iphone apps with a touchscreen remote “not exactly but you guys get the picture let your imaginations run” this would be crazy and exiting ;) . Would you my readers buy it, and how much are you willing to spend because we all know apple has some steep prices.

iPhone MMS Working on OS 3.0 Beta 5

May 08, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

.

iPhone MMS has already been enabled on the newly released iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5 firmware by members of MacMagazine.com.br.

Luckily enough a few hours of work for the Breno Masi, the team MacMagazine, to make the MMS on the new beta. :-)

The fantastic is the Network setup screen now allows a complete configuration of MMS, as you can see the third screenshot above.

The act requires the publication of a new .ipcc with a key that activates the MMS. Sending for the iPhone should be done with the first beta of iTunes 8.2, as the current no longer allows it.
