Yellow Fever

June 08, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

pwnapple

Well the WWDC is tomorrow and evern the dev team has some things to say, check out what they said on their blog below:

These are very exciting days ahead! WWDC, the new 3.0 firmware, the new iPhone2,1 device. All in the span of a month or two. Nobody is more excited than we are :)

Unfortunately, there are predators out there that are counting on your over-exuberance. Maybe we should call it yell0w fever. One very recent example is a certain yellowsn0w221 page on wordpress.com. Do not download anything from that page if you’re on a PC, else you’ll be infected with a virus. The page talks and talks about a supposed Firmware 2.2.1 yellowsn0w exploit, but it’s all a ruse to get you to download and infect your PC.

We’re used to (though still aren’t happy about) less predatory websites, like quickpwn.com. That site (1) is not us. We don’t consult with them in any way (2) makes money from their Google hits (they’re usually near the top) (3) sometimes gives very very bad advice (like tweeting yellowsn0w users to use QuickPwn on 3.0 betas. Bad suggestion). (4) also owns yellowsn0w.net, another money making website.

The wordpress page, though, is at another level. It’s out to 0wn your PC for spamming purposes. Please be on the lookout for any pages that mention “dev team” news that you don’t actually see on this blog first. We are very good at not leaking sensitive info (since that really wrecks this whole “cat&mouse” thing). So no blog or forum or youtube page would have any “insider” dev team knowledge that you won’t see announced here first.

About the unlock (the real yellowsn0w): you all paid lots of money for your iPhones, and so we know that if you are depending on a software unlock, this is a sensitive issue. It’s a very sensitive issue to us too, which is why we can’t say or release anything prematurely that could potentially compromise any 3.0 software unlock. The commenters on this blog that have high ratings (20 or above) understand this intimately so please listen to them when they try to assist those waiting for any unlock :)

iPhone not just being announced Monday

June 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple will announce the iPhone Video at WWDC 2009 this coming Monday. That won’t be a surprise though, as many are expecting it, Walt Mossberg said it, and Apple needs to counteract the Palm Pre launch.
What you don’t know, though, is that Apple will likely make the iPhone Video available the same day. Yes, you will be able to pick up the next version of the iPhone on Monday, if you get to an Apple Store before they sell out.

What will we see in the new iPhone Video? For starters, it will be available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models. A 4GB model is in the works as well, but it won’t be available on Monday, and when it is released, it won’t be sold in Apple Stores. All the things you’ve been seeing about an auto-focus camera, compass, etc. are all true. A camera on front along with a camera on back, that is the real deal – although it may just be for you to take video of yourself, and not for iChat video communication (although that would freaking rock.) A faster processor is also a lock (although I have heard nothing on additional RAM, it would make sense.)

So, why do I believe the new iPhone Video will be released on Monday? Well, iPhone betas were coming out hot and heavy every couple of weeks, and stopped after beta 5. I am totally convinced that iPhone 3.0 is done, and ready to be made available at WWDC.

We also have the Palm Pre launching two days before…what better way for Apple to throw up a big middle finger to the former iPhone peeps that went to work on the Pre than to kill their momentum with the iPhone Video launching two days after? Talking to a few sources, it seems that the stars are in alignment for iPhone Video to launch this Monday. My understanding is that availability will be limited, because the plan was to launch in July. This means that Apple doesn’t have all the phones available now that they would have had in July for a launch – but you can expect regular replenishments of product.

There are also rumors that Steve Jobs will make his return with a surprise appearance at WWDC. What better way to come back with a bang? Now, this obviously isn’t confirmed, but how convinced am I that this is true? For the first time, I will be following the WWDC keynote from my local Apple Store, and you may want to do the same. If you’re near the Lynnwood, WA Apple Store, come say hello.

tiPb on subject… ”
Gearlive basically thinks Apple was going to release in July, but are rushing it up in an effort to counteract the release of the Palm Pre tomorrow, June 6.
TiPb isn’t so sure. Last year’s iPhone 3G was announced at WWDC on June 9, was cleared by the FCC that same day (presumably to prevent leaks), and went on sale July 11. Could iPhone video get announced, clear FCC, and hit the streets all in one day?
Also, last year Apple announced their carrier partners at WWDC, and those carrier partners spent the next month unveiling rate plans, upgrade paths, etc. Has AT&T, or any carrier, breathed a word about an MMS plan for iPhones? A way to upgrade from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone video? Would releasing the iPhone video not create an immediate customer service nightmare for Apple and AT&T as everyone showed up, nothing but questions to ask?
We don’t know. Only Apple does. We know we want it though, and figure you do too. But could Apple really release the iPhone video this Monday?!”

New iPhone Patent For Transmitting Data.

June 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

A patent application entitled “Methods and systems for mixing media with communications”, was filed in November 2007 and describes methods for sharing digital media files such as music, videos, and images as part of an audio, video, or data communications connection without terminating the original connection.

The present invention permits a user to initiate a communications operation with a recipient, or to receive a communications operation initiated by another individual, and to transmit a selected media item over the same communication path used for the communications operation without terminating the communications operation. This combined transmission can occur regardless of the type of media selected by the user to be added to the communications operation.

Notably, while Apple’s drawings accompanying the patent application point to implementations related to the iPhone, Apple also makes numerous references to the sharing of media while users are engaged in video conferences, something not possible in the current models of the iPhone. The addition of video calling, which would require a front-facing camera, to the iPhone has been a popular target of speculation, with rumors appearing as recently as this week pointing to the possibility of its appearance in an upcoming iPhone hardware update.

iPhone OS 3.0 Release Date???

June 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

There has been a lot of talk about the new iPhone 3.0 firmware. Rumors are flying about new features

and stunning new bug fixes. But no one really knows when it is coming out. Some say a month some say a year. Apple has not set an official release date but we may be one step closer to finding out that crucial day.

Chris Johnston, an online blogger, just made a post on his blog http://chrisjohnston.org about his incident with his iPhone.  He says he was on the phone with a support representative from Apple trying to fix a problem with his iPhone. The representative told him that the new 3.0 firmware would be released in the next week and this might help him fix the problem with his device.

If what the Apple representative said is indeed true, that would make the release of the new firmware around the time of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which is taking place from June 8 through June 12.

We are still unsure if the information about the release date is legitimate, but since it came from Apple we have more reason to believe it.  This phone conversation took place within the last couple of hours at about 09:00 p.m. Thursday June 4, 2009 in GMT.
