Samsung presents new ARM Cortex processor 1GHz-8! Will it make the next iPhone?

July 28, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Samsung has today unveiled the new ARM processor that could easily be implemented in the next smartphone. Cortex-A8. The code name is Hummingbird and architetutta is the same as the 3GS: Cortex-A8. Unlike the old processor, this will have a clock at 1GHz, with much better performance of the 833 MHz processor currently being used.

The new processor also is smaller, more efficient in terms of energy and unable to move even lower in time. We can execute 2 billion instructions per second, consuming only 640mW of power, with less than 1V voltage. It ‘a dual-issue processor (which executes two instructions at a time), with an extension called Neon, which can speed up the audio and video.

I would love to see this in the next gen iphone. Think of the possibilities :)
