8.43% of iPhone users jailbroken

August 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It would appear as if there has been a recent surge in jailbreaking popularity. According to the most recent information from Pinch Media, 8.43% of Iphone users have jailbroken their phone. Of course, looking at the complete picture that is a small number of users, especially when you look at the percentage of non-jailbroken users — 91.57%.
But given that, those willing to jailbreak has risen from 8.0% up to the current 8.43% in just the previous week. Knowing that, one cannot help but wonder if the increase has had anything to do with the recent Google Voice controversy and the addition of GV Mobile in Cydia (the unofficial app store).
All in all this is an interesting stat to see, and one that I have not seen before, but one that I am going to try and keep and eye on in the future. According to Just Another iPhone Blog, the percentage of users was under 7% a few weeks back.

Fox News Makes Jailbreaking Look Good

August 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

This news video is the greatest I have seen from a big company, I like how they show all of the features most people jailbreak for and they also show how in the end if you don’t like it you can just restore to factory settings without any harm done ;) . There is one small thing I didn’t like about the vid which is when it says you can’t delete cydia apps you can only hide them which is untrue, You can delete cydia apps just by going into the cydia app and uninstalling it. Check out the vid below brought to us by foxnews.com

August 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Namco recently announced that they were forming an Apple Games division to head up game development for Apple platforms like the iPhone, and in this interview, a producer for them who used to work for Apple says that they’re excited to work on bringing great games to the handheld device. Like, for example, Pac-man, Galaga, and… Soulcaliber and Tekken.

This is awesome. Big game companies are starting to take the iPhone seriously. Maybe they can figure out a way to sell their games for more than $.99 and add more resources and polish to their games.

TomTom iPhone GPS App and Car Kit Listed for £99

August 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

HandTek.co.uk lists the TomTom iPhone App and Car Kit for £99 ($168.50) plus tax and is now taking pre-orders for the item.

The listing was discovered by DaniWeb; however, they have been unable to officially confirm this pricing.

They do note that the cheapest standalone TomTom in-car unit costs £118 ($200) which means that the iPhone version is somewhat cheaper. That is if you have an iPhone already.

The TomTom solution combines two new TomTom products:
- The TomTom navigation application for iPhone; an Apple version of TomTom’s award-winning turn-by-turn navigation software, including IQ Routes and latest maps from Tele Atlas;
- The TomTom car kit for iPhone; a specially developed car kit for secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions, hands-free calling and in-car charging.

Updated plist suggests new Apple device “iProd” coming soon

August 05, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

An updated USBConfiguration.plist in the most recent version of iPhone OS 3.1 beta offers compelling evidence that Apple has continued development on an unknown device, referred to as “iProd,” that was first discovered in March. A developer alerted us to the appearance of the new device description for iProd1,1 inside the configuration file. As most Apple devices are assigned the “1,1″ designation in the first revision, this leads us to believe that there is indeed an unknown product inside of Apple under active development running the iPhone OS.

When the iPhone OS 3.0 SDK beta was first seeded to developers, an entry inside the USBConfiguration.plist indicated that a device identified only as iProd0,1 existed inside of Apple. The .plist item was nested among the usual iPhone and iPod Touch identifiers, as well as iPhone3,1, which turned out to be the iPhone 3GS Read more…

This new game looks pleasing to us fps fans. Gameloft has released this video to show off the good graphics and fast gameplay. Hopefully the controls are better than the other fps games on the appstore as most suck and are hard to get use to.
