Geohot Has Successfully Hacked The Ps3
I know this has nothing to do with the iphone but to me this is such a big thing. I am a sony ps3 fan and I can’t wait to start running hombrew on my ps3. Below is Geohot’s first post on the beginning of a new era for us ps3 owners.
Hello hypervisor, I’m geohot
I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1.
3 years, 2 months, 11 days…thats a pretty secure system
Took 5 weeks, 3 in Boston, 2 here, very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.
Shout out to George Kharrat from iPhoneMod Brasil for giving me this PS3 a year and a half ago to hack. Sorry it took me so long 
As far as the exploit goes, I’m not revealing it yet. The theory isn’t really patchable, but they can make implementations much harder. Also, for obvious reasons I can’t post dumps. I’m hoping to find the decryption keys and post them, but they may be embedded in hardware. Hopefully keys are setup like the iPhone’s KBAG.

I’m speechless…i don’t have a Ps3 but this sounds really interesting….is this just like a mod for the xbox or wii tho…..what does the hacking do for me? huh, guess im not speechless…

wow!!! does that mean i can play iso games on ps3?
i don’t own a ps3 yet but if, thanks to Geohot, i’m able to play downloaded games on ps3, i’ll definitely buy it the day he releases the hack!

guys, does it mean that it will be possible to download games and somehow upload them on the PS3 hardrive and play cracked games?
im owner of PS3 and if it came true it will be the most beatiful thing it ever happend to me

I’ve had the 60gb ps3 since it came out, and have been waiting for this since then.
Looks like sony have got a lot to think about, first every psp has been hacked, now the ps3!

Im sure you will be able to play iso games and such but I don’t think that is the main thing of hacking it. First off you got to think that if you rip a ps3 game it is going to be around 40 gb per iso, oh yeah you have to have a blu ray disc burner and those aren’t cheap. Another thing is if you really want to download 40gb isos from torrents or anywhere on the net you better have a t1 line, a 640gb hdd for your ps3 and wait a couple of weeks to download one game…Pirating ps3 games isn’t gonna be conveniant!! Now maybe people will start to share ps3 store games like the ones that are 1gb or maybe playstation store addons such as map packs for games but thats about it… Don’t forget guys its not all about getting free games, sometimes its just about playing your old ps2 games, running emulators, and being able to play mkv files on the ps3 thats the type of stuff we should all be looking for. By the way it may be a yr before we see any software that lets you easily hack it, there are still a lot of things to be done so don’t expect anytime soon. [End Rant]

This IS big news. Just think of the posabilities.( spelled wrong) you pop in a game and from the ps3 install it to your hhd. Sure you need like a 1tb but that’s not that expensive. Not to mention maybe a divx player, homebrews, emulators.ect… It’s going to be awesome

Theres still a long ways to go, no one knows what PS3 he has, what firmware, if hes had his sitting for a year and a half i’d be surprised if its updated to recent firmware anyway. Obviously its an old one though cause he gave that away saying he got it a year and a half ago haha. That man is smarter than most and I give him props for doing what hes done so far with this and huge props for the iPhone stuff. PS3 games definitely arent 40GB and most probably only have Padding. Easiest way is rent a game for 8 bucks and copy it yourself if its ever possible to play burnt games that is. Fuck downloading even 20GB
