Sources Detail Physical Design of Apple’s Upcoming Tablet!!

January 21, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

When Apple finally takes the wraps off its long-anticipated tablet next Wednesday, the device will strike a familiar chord with owners of the original iPhone, with similarities in industrial design trickling all the way down to the handset’s button and connectivity components, AppleInsider has learned.

Nearly two and a half years have passed since AppleInsider exclusively reported in September of 2007 that the Cupertino-based gadget maker planned to follow the blockbuster success of the iPhone with a broader entry into consumer electronics, spearheaded by a completely new category of device akin to a “slate” and reminiscent of a modern-day reincarnation of the company’s now defunct Newton tablet.

Since then, Apple has surprised in its capacity to work alongside dozens of partners and still maintain a relatively tight lid of the product’s design, feature set, and software-driven functionality. Though recent weeks have been met by a flurry of reports on Apple’s likely intentions for the device, a 28-month trail of rumors and speculation have left onlookers with exponentially more questions than answers.

Final Fantasy I and II Coming To The iPhone/iPod Touch

January 21, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Just announced at Square Enix’s Facebook page: Final Fantasy I and II are coming to an App Store near you. The nearly 20-year-old games have been remastered and re-released a number of times, with versions appearing for just about every platform invented thus far, so it was only a matter of time before they made their way to the iPhone and iPod touch.

Release date and pricing are both TBA, and nothing official has been announced on Square Enix’s official site as of yet, but in the meantime, they’ve posted screenshots, and they look quite excellent. With Final Fantasy XIII coming out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March, going all the way back to the long-running series’ beginning on the iPhone sounds like a really fun way to pass the next couple of months.

AT&T Preparing for ‘Unannounced’ Device?

January 20, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

BoyGeniusReport has heard that AT&T is meeting individually with regional executives to inform them of changes to the AT&T network.

What have we heard? Well, for starters, they seem to be focused on prepping the network to compensate for unannounced devices and also future devices that will use “heavy data.” What about tethering options? AT&T has said that changes to current data plans and tethering plans (or availability) will change when the network is able to “sufficiently handle the load.”

Although vague, this information corroborates reports that the tablet could have 3G network capabilities.

Earthquake Survivor Says iPhone Helped Save His Life

January 20, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

“Usually, when someone says their iPhone is a life saver, they are talking about the phone helping them find a good takeout spot or an emergency bathroom,” Todd Wright reports for NBC Miami.

“When Dan Woolley says it, he really means it. He used a medical app saved on his phone to treat a leg injury after the Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince collapsed around him,” Wright reports. “Woolley, who is from Colorado Springs, is one of the Americans who survived the massive earthquake that hit Haiti last week, and he did it with an iPhone application. Woolley is now recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, but it was his fast actions with the app that may have saved his life.” Read more…

More Hints at Apple’s Desire to Hold ‘iPad’ Trademark

January 20, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Yesterday, we uncovered evidence that Apple has been pursuing trademarks for the name “iPad”, with some filings occurring as recently as late last week. The move has obviously led to speculation that Apple may be planning to use that name for its tablet device rumored for introduction next week.

At the time, we noted that Apple had not pursued an “iPad” trademark in the United States, ostensibly due to existing claims on the name by Fujitsu for an electronic retail inventory device. While Fujitsu initially filed its trademark application for “iPad” in March 2003, the trademark has yet to be officially accepted, and was in fact classified by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as “abandoned” in April 2009 after Fujitsu failed to respond to a request for additional information.
