Thieves cut a hole in the roof and rappelled down into a Best Buy, without touching the ground, to steal $26,000 worth of Apple notebook computers, reports NJ.com.

Amazingly the bandits performed the whole heist without setting off alarms or being caught on tape.

On top of the building, they used a saw to cut through several inches of rubber and insulation, then sliced a 3-foot-wide square in the metal roof. Read more…

iPhone Photo Makes UK Tabloids Look Foolish

March 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It doesn’t take much to make yourself look like a fool, but in the case of The UK’s Sun and Daily Mail newspapers, they have to be feeling quite idiotic right about now. Perhaps not, as these tabloids have a history of running fabulous stories about celebrities, politicians, and the supernatural as a matter of daily business.

John Ware, a 47-year old builder, sent the newspapers a photo he had taken with his iPhone that allegedly showed a ghostly little boy dressed in turn-of-the-20th-century clothing, balefully looking at the photographer. You can see the little boy at the right side of the photo, standing in the foreground. The papers dutifully ran the story, with the Sun’s example shown at the top of this post. Read more…

You know, for all the praise the iPhone has received in its time, we never thought it looked quite Matrix-y enough. Thankfully, that all-important deficiency has been remedied by a man named Ryan Glasgow up in Portland, who has just started selling the above case to all who care to have one. It’s built out of stainless steel on the outside and silicone padding on the inside, with strategically located cutouts for wireless signals and heat emissions to get through. Read more…

A Very Cool Custom Made iPhone Stand

March 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

That headline is probably a bit of an overstatement, since this is probably the only iPhone stand made out of cutlery. ForkedUpArt of North Salt Lake, Utah, is actually selling two different stands. ForkHead, who you see standing at attention at your right, and SpoonHead, ForkHead’s smarter brother.

Sold through our favorite iPhone accessory store, Etsy.com, the ForkedUpArt iPhone stands can be customized if you want, and according to the artist, “I’m making these guys as fast as I can.” Read more…

ScreenRecorder is a new application available in Cydia that lets you record everything that happened on the screen of your iPhone. It will therefore be particularly useful for developers who want to run video demonstration / tutorial or all other users with special needs.

The operation and the graphical interface is extremely simple. Wait for the countdown and automatically start recording the screen. Just put everything in the background and move freely among the pages and apps.

It is available in Cydia Store at a price of $ 1.99.

ThinkFlood’s IR transmitter In a Smaller, Cheaper Package

March 03, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

ThinkFlood released the Redeye in December of last year, which is a little unit that hooks up to your iPhone and, working with a separate app, turns Apple’s handheld into universal IR remote. Our own Brett Terpstra liked the device, but said the unit was a little costly and could probably use a few tweaks. ThinkFlood has apparently made those tweaks, however, as they’ve now announced the Redeye mini, a smaller (and cheaper) form of the IR device. Read more…

Can The iPad Make Emergency Calls

March 03, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

GumballTech found that if you enter your iPad passcode lock incorrectly a few times, the iPad brings up an Emergency Call Screen.

The above was easily achieved by enabled a passcode lock, and then entering it incorrectly about 5 times. You can then slide for a emergency call.

The Emergency Call Screen is formatted for the iPad with wider buttons and a centered keypad. Its unclear if this capability is required by the FCC; however, if the iPad can make emergency calls it will likely be hacked to make regular phone calls as well.
