Wired Does A First iPad Edition

May 26, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

This is what e-magazines should have always been. A sparkling layout, embedded animations, video and audio. Compared to what Wired has done, the other magazines offered, like Time and Popular Science, feel pretty much like tarted up PDF files.

Adobe created the translation for the iPad for Conde Nast, publisher of Wired. Originally, it was going to be Flash based, but when Steve Jobs put the clamps on that, Adobe re-did everything in Apple-approved Objective-C.

Wired for iPad, released today, is a dazzler. There are 3D rendering you control by moving your hand, videos that look crisp, and some interactive features that are very helpful in getting a full understanding of the subject matter. Read more…

Digitimes: Apple Explored, Rejected OLED Screen For Next iPhone

May 26, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple reportedly explored the possibility of adding an OLED screen to its forthcoming next-generation iPhone, but ultimately rejected the feature for a variety of reasons, and will stick with an LCD IPS display.

Taiwanese industry publication Digitimes published a conversation with its senior analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, on Wednesday, in which he broke down the numerous rumors regarding Apple’s fourth-generation handset.

With regards to the display, the interview revealed that Apple spoke with Samsung about active matrix OLED panels as far back as in the development of the iPhone 3GS, released last summer. But supply issues were reportedly only one part of the problem with OLED for Apple. Read more…

Dev-Team Releases Developer Jailbreak for iPhone OS 4.0b4

May 26, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone Dev-Team has released a jailbreak for developers using iPhone OS 4.0 beta 4.

The jailbreak is performed using a special .9.5 beta of RedSn0w.

This BETA release supports:
● iPhone 3G only (for now)
● Mac OSX only (for now)
● the 4.0beta1/beta4 FW only (for now)

YOU SHOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS BETA SOFTWARE IF YOU RELY ON A CARRIER UNLOCK. That’s because the beta redsn0w works only if your device has already been upgraded to the stock 4.0beta1/beta4 IPSW from Apple, which contains a baseband update. If you installed that IPSW, you’ve already lost the carrier unlock until the next planned release of ultrasn0w and blacksn0w.

May 26, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple will launch the new iPhone next month, reports BGR.

In what could be the shortest report for one of the biggest news items ever, it reads:

“Title says it all, but you didn’t really need a confirmation, did you? The phone will be available for purchase in June, not July, and from what we’ve heard, it won’t even be late June.”

This follows AT&T’s move earlier this week to offer the iPhone 3GS at a newly-discounted $99, with the iPhone 3G now removed from general sale. Read more…

Apple Filming Video Chat Commercial for New iPhone?

May 25, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

American Beauty director Sam Mendes may be putting together a series of commercials for the new iPhone, according to Engadget.

The site has heard that the new device is being internally referred to as the Mammoth/N90.

A trusted source has confirmed to us that the ads will feature at least one spot where a mother and daughter are having a video chat conversation using the new front-facing camera that’s been spied on the face of that iPhone floating around Vietnam and Northern California.

A Twitter search has turned up evidence to support these claims with an actress and actor both heading to auditions for a new Apple commercial.

May 25, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Here’s a strange one: Apple’s iPad has been banned from the world-famous Yankee Stadium.
