Android is Now Available for Installation on the iPhone 3G

May 21, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Android is now available for installation on both the iPhone 2G and the iPhone 3G thanks to the hard work of planetbeing and those assisting him.

You can download the binaries here: iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G

Planetbeing has also written instructions for installing Android which you can find here

The steps are basically the same as before, except you can put the firmware in a directory on the iPhone OS data partition. This means that you don’t have to modify the ext2 partition as before. One thing I didn’t mention is that you could perform the installation on OS X without a Linux VM if you recompile loadibec and oibc. Otherwise, the directions are the same.

Congratulations to all those who contributed to making this possible.

ATT Increases iPhone Early Termination Fee to $325

May 21, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

AT&T has announced the increase of their Early Termination Fee for customers who want to opt out of their smartphone contract.

For customers who enter into new two-year service agreements in connection with the purchase of our more advanced, higher end devices, including netbooks and smartphones, the ETF will increase to $325, and be reduced by $10 for each month that you remain with us as a customer during the balance of your two-year service agreement. After that, the ETF will no longer apply.

This latest move has added fuel to the rumor that Verizon could get the iPhone 4G as early as this fall. Increasing the ETF for iPhone owners will make it more difficult for customers to switch to Verizon.

Saurik: Twitterific App For iPad Massive Dissappointment

May 20, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Saurik recently gave twitterific a shot on his ipad and lets just say his opinion on the app wasn’t very pretty. Below is what he had to say about twitter and all of the 3rd party twitter apps that are popping up on a daily basis:

I am a die hard fan of iPhone Twitterific. In fact, I’d say that it is the most important third party application I have on my device, and in fact possibly the only one I use. Twitterific has super-fast scrolling and seemed to really get the Twitter workflow. The iPad version of this app doesn’t live up to that legacy. Read more…

Apple has ended their no cash policy after a woman on fixed income was prevented from buying an iPad. The woman had saved up for the device for weeks but when she went to the Apple Store she was turned away.

“It took quite a long time for me to just save up this small amount of money to go down and purchase one,” she said. “I had my cash in the backpack and I went up proudly to the counter and told them, ‘I would like to purchase an iPad.’” Read more…

Netflix App For iPad Provides Video-Out Capability

May 19, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

I’ve been a fan of the Netflix app for iPad (free) since it first arrived on the scene, but it always made me sad that I couldn’t use my little Apple Dock Connector to VGA Adapter to display videos through a projector or TV.

Now I have a happy face. As of this afternoon, Netflix has updated the app to version 1.0.2, which provides support for video output via the aforementioned VGA adapter as well as the component and composite video cables. That means that you now have the ability to stream a movie from Netflix to your iPad, then zap that movie out to your projector, VGA monitor, or any TV with component or composite inputs. The resolution might not be what you’re used to with an HDTV, but this does have a high coolness factor…

Excuse me, but I’m going to stop writing now and go watch all the Netflix movies available for instant play that have a 4-star or higher rating.
