iPhone 4 802.11n Wi-Fi Does Not Support 5GHz

June 15, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

While the iPhone 4 seems to boast 802.11n Wi-Fi, it unfortunately does not support the 5GHz frequency band, according to TUAW.

I asked Glenn about this on Twitter, and he confirmed my fears that 802.11n in 2.4Ghz will suffer from the same interference that b/g devices do. This makes “802.11n” partly just a marketing bullet point for iPhone 4 instead of a truly beneficial feature. If you’re currently running a 5GHz-only N network, your iPhone won’t take advantage.

    Who cares? A 2.4GZ speed is fast enough for me. That will not stop people from buying the iPhone4.

    First of all i see people dont actually know what is a 5ghz network and what a 2.4ghz network is!
    As your home routers are 2.4ghz standard they operate on your chosen channel as for my router i set it on 2.4 channel 4 not that channels matter in this case anyway… But ok…
    As for the 5ghz network they are used for wide or multi user connections! As for wi fi spots! I have an 2.4ghz outdoor omni directional antena capable of 12km range! But hey if your other side sux than no signal at all! And on my 5ghz antena same shit no signal! Why? No 5ghz does not give you better signal at all in fact i have less covrege with my outdoor pannel 14dbi antena than the other grid antena that has 12dbi!

    It’s not a big deal unless your saying it does and it dosent do the job at all.
