Is iPhone 4 Worth The Upgrade?

As you guys may know the iphone 4 is causing major problems for Apple and At&t online stores. Just like most of you I had major problems and wasn’t able to get an order to go through until mid afternoon after several hours of trying, I must say it was very frustrating. I thought to myself why is everyone slamming Apple’s and At&t’s sites is this iphone really worth the upgrade? The answer is yes, if you are eligible for an upgrade the iphone 4 is definately worth it. The reason being is that unlike last years iphone upgrade the iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4 actually has new features other than just a speed boost and double the memory.
Last year Apple introduced the iPhone 3gs and compared to the iphone 3g it wasn’t much of a difference other than a faster processor, video recording (jailbreakers already had this feature), and double the memory. This year the new iPhone brings on a lot of new features such as new slim design, 5 megapixel camera with flash and hd video recording, front facing camera, retina display, new never before seen antenna technology, Apple a4 processor, larger battery and many more software based features. To make things short lets go over what we get with this years iphone 4 upgrade compared to the past couple of iphone upgrades.
Starting from the iphone 3g in 2008 we all loved the internet browsing speed boost but were missing some core features every cell phone had such as mms and video recording. The iphone 3g was definately a worthy upgrade since we all wanted faster web browsing and of course the appstore came and blew everything away. So yes the 3g was worth upgrading to if you had an iphone 2g.
Now the iPhone 3Gs that was released a while back compared to the iphone 3g was and kind of wasn’t worthy of an upgrade. The new features we got in the 3gs compared to the 3g weren’t all that game changing nor were there many of them, as a matter of fact we got 3 main features and all of which every other cheap phone had. The 3gs brought us a new processor for a snappier responsive feeling phone, video recording, and multimedia messaging. To some that was probably worth the upgrade from the 2g but if you upgraded to a 3g and were stuck with it until now you didn’t miss much so be glad you skipped the 3gs.
On to the iPhone 4. Now that you read the features we’ve been getting in every iphone update for the past few years, this is why the iPhone 4 is most definately worth the upgrade this year. The iPhone 4 as I mentioned above brings a lot of new features and if you’ve read about the past 2 iphone updates brought to us by apple you already know that this years iphone is the one to get.
With this new iPhone we get video recording but not just regular video recording we get HD video recording so no more carrying around a bulky video camera for those unforgettable spur of the moment shots, by the way did I mention apple has made imovie for the iphone to take advantage of this new hd video recording. Now you can put videos together with nice transitions, background music, captions, and upload it right away to share with family and friends.
The iPhone 4 camera has also been upgraded to a 5 megapixel camera with flash, yes you all know flash is that one thing we all wanted on our iphones and after 2 years of asking for it we finally have it. Although I don’t know how well the camera will do with the flash exposure and dark lighting Apple always does a good job implementing new features so I expect it to work up to our expectations. These two things right here already make this years iphone worth the upgrade compared to the other upgrades which were the 3g and the 3gs.
Next comes the front facing camera. Can you believe it guys, all of us who grew up watching those futuristic shows and movies where people could video call each other can also do it ourselves now in real life. This has got to be the biggest and best feature this iphone has. The possibilities are endless with this new feature. Video calling is going to be a big thing for the deaf community, the soldiers overseas being able to see their families, business people, heck it will even help out us young people out by showing our other friends if its worth coming out to the party or not. On the other hand this will also be a big hit for those people who love taking self portraits puckering their lips up although I find it kind of awkward, the front facing camera is a big plus.
The iPhone 4 also has a retina display, a lot of you guys don’t really understand what this means. I did some research and to put the fancy talk to the side. The new retina display basically makes things clear but not just normal clear I mean super clear. Compared to any other phone the iphone 4′s screen is going to look as good as those tv’s being displayed at best buy, you know the super clear looking ones that are just for show because whenever you get a new led tv and take it home it doesn’t look as good as the one displayed at the store.
Another great this is something we’ve always wanted. A bigger battery, Apple stated that the new bigger battery is going to add 40% more talk time and we will also be able to surf the web, watch videos, and listen to music longer so no more carrying around our sync cable everywhere to charge our phones.
The iPhone 4 is also using Apple’s new custom designed A4 chip. Now i’m not big on the specs of processors and such but a new faster, smaller, power efficient processor is welcome. It is said that the iphone 4 processor is the same as the one ipad is using but it can always be a modified version. We’ll have to wait and see.
Last but not least is the new design. iPhone 4 is slimmer, made out of a stainless steel frame with an integrated antenna around the edge so we’re sure to get great reception. What else must I say this is the iPhone that is really worth the upgrade so go out and get it while you can.

Well, as a total, this post just looks like an ad, posted by Apple themselves
But, I doubt the arguments are correct… Video calling is one of the least used features, throughout the world (you know, Europe and other continents had the ability since ages now!)
And, I hate articles written with a VERY closed vision… The world IS NOT the US, remember that, please.
Besides these oppositions about the post, I would love to get a 32GB White (where is it?) iPhone4 to upgrade my 3GS, just for the camera and the display. (It’s a very high resolution IPS display, with a very high pixel density… That’s all there is about it)

The world isn’t the US, but it was point directly for the people in the US. Either way 3G(S) upgrading you get better camera, flash, front facing camera, display and a slimmer/better design. Did you even read the article?

Thanks for the article Sosly. Of course i had already ordered my new 4 b4 i read it but it’s nice to have some arguments when the misses asks “hey how much did that new phone cost?” Nunya business biatch….
although i agree that the video calling won’t prob be used that much, and of course just bc you have it doesn’t meant that your friends or fam will have it….(i only have 3-4 close friends that have iphones), so although it’s neat to have I prob won’t use it that much…..
And yes the world is mostly the U.S. Emre….all businesses want to get into the U.S. Market, and this is written for a mostly U.S. audience besides the few Aussies that is, so not sure why you say it’s closed vision….
I ordered the phone bc of (well i was always just going to), for some reasons including the still unlimited data plan that i have bc ATT is changing that for new customers…i am having a kid so it will be nice to have hd video at my fingertips without having to carry around other equipment, more memory and better vision i just want, and bc they let early upgraders in on it, but if they release a better Iphone 4G next year and try to cut me out I will probly be mad at myself for doing it.

I bet next year, I’ll be like the 3G(S) all over again. Almost no new features..
June 16th, 2010 at 10:25 am
Yeah it will be and this post’s main point of view was that this year it is worth upgrading because last years iphone didn’t have any new features other than video recording and memory boosts. The phone this year adds a lot of new hardware. The front facing camera is a big plus for us business people who fly all the time since I don’t see family much and im sure to get all of my family an iphone 4.

I think this yr was totally worth the upgrade. I upgraded last yr because I hated how sloooow the 3G phone was and have been happy with the 3GS. So for me it was a preference thing to upgrade last yr. Cause all the 3GS really was was a 3G on steroids with a couple exclusive features thrown in
iPhone 4 is absolutely worth it. However I find it funny that I’m paying 299$ for the 32GB compared to last yr when I paid 499$. But apparently I wasn’t eligible for the full upgrade price. So I got the next available subsidized pricing. This yr though I’m fully eligible so that’s awesome.
I was actually STRONGLY considering getting an HTC EVO 4G. I live the size of that screen my god! But I decided to stick with the iPhone for now. Let’s see what next yr has in store. Now all I have to do is hold of on actually using the new phone until I know for certain it can be jailbroken. Even with all those bice new added features I still prefer a jailbroken iPhone.
Yeah I know then why te hell did I buy it not knowing for certain it’s jailbreakable? Well let’s just say I have faith in the jailbreak community to pull through. Once it’s a go I will sell my 3GS. Not sure what I can get for it though since apple is practically giving it away now. Though mine is 32GB black mint condition. Guess we’ll see. Last yr I sold my 3G on eBay for a nice 450$

Tony you lucky punk, selling a 3g for 450 is ridiculous.. The most i’ve ever sold one for was like 325 and trust me im an entrepreneur. Don’t worry about a jailbreak its for sure going to be jailbroken, I give it a week or two though after release since dev team and geo test things before releasing.

I want an iphone 4! :’(

@ Tony, As far as selling your 3Gs on eBay, I think you will still do good. There are so many people who want the iPhone without having to sign a contract with AT&T who will pay good for it. I noticed that on eBay that a jailbroken, unlocked 3Gs with tethering is really selling well because so many people really want a jailbroken iPhone but are to afraid to even attempt it because they are not very computer literate or don’t know how to use the search engines to find the proper software to jailbreak and/or unlock. I’ve gotten paid from a few friends just to jailbreak and I offered them the software and instructions to do it themselves but they preferred me to do it seeing I had already jailbroken my phone and iPod Touch with success. To sum it all up, I think the 3Gs will still sell well on eBay (well I’m hoping bcz that’s where I will be selling mine)!
