Jailbreakers: Questions Answered Before Updating To IOS 4.0
June 19, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple will officially be pushing out ios 4.o on Monday and a lot of you anxious i-device owners are ready to click the update button. For you jailbreakers out there, you should all know that updating to a new firmware will cause you to lose your jailbreak and unlock along with all of your 3rd party cydia apps. Before everyone starts asking questions about when, where, and how you can jailbreak the new firmware, here are a few things to know.
- Is ios 4.0 jailbreakable? Yes it is but the dev team and geohot aren’t releasing jailbreaks right away. Give them a week or two after the iphone 4 release and we will all be happily jailbroken. Its not a promise but that is my estimation.
- is ios 4.0 unlockable? From what Musclenerd is tweeting in the post below, yes it is but again you must wait a while for testing/developing to be done before an unlock is officially released.
- If you want to keep your jailbreak and all of your 3rd party cydia apps on your iphone, stay on the 3.x firmwares until an official dev team or geohot jailbreak is release. Remember that a lot of 3rd party cydia apps will not work on ios 4.0 so even when you get an official jailbreak, you will not be able to use them since the devs haven’t officially updated them to 4.0 so be patient. It is better to stay on 3.x until all of your favorite 3rd party cydia apps are ported to 4.0
If you guys have any more questions feel free to comment and I will answer them asap.

Just like last year ibwas walking around with my 3G phone until the 3GS was officially jailbroken lol. Same thing this go round. I will keep my 3GS until not only iOS4 is jailbroken. But the iPhone 4 as well. I’m patient. Besides ironically all the tweaks and features I have through Cydia on my 3GS pretty much mirror the iPhone 4 and iOS4 anyway. But I am anxious to utilize that new processor, extra ram, better battery and just general awesomeness of the new phone.
The devteam and geohot are the best! Apple can’t touch them. Haha!!

Tony exactly right about that, i’m going to downgrade to 3.1.3 today. I can’t deal with no mywi or other 3rd party cydia apps

Yeah..can’t wait for MyWi for iOS 4

I’ve emailed the devs asking if they are going to update mywi no rock for ios 4.0 but no response.

If I update to iOS4, will I lose my cracked apps? They have all been synced to my iTunes.
June 20th, 2010 at 6:57 pm
ditto on the mywi, i’ll be waiting to update till then.

I don’t know i’ve never updated with cracked apps on my iphone but if you sync cracked apps back and forth between your computer and update they should still be there.

Just because they’ve been synched doesn’t mean they will work on the new firmware. You will need a new appsync on iOS4 for them to sync back to your iPhone. Otherwise you will be an error in iTunes telling you that those particular apps cannot be synched.
