Updated: iOS 4.0 Custom Firmware Downloads
June 22, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

A lot of users have been asking for custom 4.0 firmwares for their i-devices. All of the custom firmwares below are basic firmwares with no custom logos, default partitions, and the default cydia package installed. The custom firmwares were made using the iPhone Dev Teams Updated Pwnagetool 4.0.1 which fixes iBooks problem.
iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom 4.0, Unactivated (Need legit att sim card), Default Logos, No Baseband Update

iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom 4.0, Hacktivated (No legit sim card needed), Default logos, No Baseband Update

FAQ:
- You can only use these firmwares on an iPhone 3GS old bootrom. If you have an iphone 3gs that has a serial number XX938XXXXXX or higher it’s a new bootrom, if its XX937XXXXXX or less you can use one of the firmwares above.
- It is recommended that you be on firmware 3.1.2 and jailbroken with blackra1n or redns0w. That way you can just put your iphone in recovery mode and restore like normal.
- If you’ve never jailbroken your iphone 3gs but have a compatible one, put your iphone in dfu mode (How To HERE) and then restore using one of the firmwares from above.

Thanks man … I knew that you will never forget us with your custom firmwares, really thanks is not enough ^_^
But how do we do it, just pop it into the Itunes and restore? or what? I mean is it OK to do so?

Thanks a million!!!!

Make sure your 3gs is on 3.1.3 or lower and is jailbroken. You MUST have an mb model 3gs go to settings/general/about and look at model #. Its the first 2 letters MB or MC. If its MC its a no go. remember MUST be on 3.1.3 or lower and jailbroken with blackrain or redsnow NOT SPIRIT! phone must be put in recovery NOT dfu. Plug phone in. Hold both buttons until screen turns black and let go of sleep button but keep holding home button. apple logo should come up and you get the picture of the ipod cord. If screen stays black and computer sees it, you are in DFU mode “means you held both buttons too long. reset and try again. once in recovery SHift restore with custom firmware

btw, keep holding the home button all the way until the cord is on the screen

I just used shift+restore in itunes 9.2 with my jailbroken 3GS on 3.1.2 and it worked great without any recovery mode.
Thanks for the firmware.

I Have a MC 3gs and upgraded from your custom furmwares, the Bootrom is not about MB/MC model name it’s about the serial number
if:
XX938XXXXXX or higher it’s a no go
If:
XX937XXXXXX or less you can do it
I have MC model and XX929XXXXXX so it worked fine
^_^
June 22nd, 2010 at 11:15 pm
i have never heard that
June 22nd, 2010 at 11:21 pm
guess i learned something new today
June 23rd, 2010 at 1:03 am
is this fw the right one to download if my 3gs is an unlocked set? (works with any sim)
iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom 4.0, Hacktivated
June 23rd, 2010 at 3:39 am
So you confirm that worked on an mc model?
June 23rd, 2010 at 3:56 am
What do you class as 3GS Old Bootrom?
June 23rd, 2010 at 6:58 am
Yes it works just as long as you have the matching serial number ( means you have the older bootrom)
but now you will be stuck with the iBook issue (not working ) … dev team solved it for the 3G only with redsn0w, waiting for the 3GS to be fixed
Go go dev team … you are our saviors ^_^

June 23rd, 2010 at 8:34 am

June 23rd, 2010 at 9:29 am
Yeah what Khallody said! Thanks theiphonespot. The only site i actually come to for quick simple jailbreaking information. -_- Others suck.

I’m using the iPhone 3GS on the 3.1.2 (7D11) with baseband 5.11.07. Can i use this? And the first 6 numbers for my bootrom are 889457.
June 23rd, 2010 at 9:58 am
john you have to check your serial number if it starts with mb then your good to use one of the firmwares or if it starts with mc but it has the number XX929XXXXXX in the serial you can also use the firmware. New pwnagetool 4.0.1 ibooks fixed firmwares are being made and uploaded right now will have them up in the afternoon.
June 23rd, 2010 at 10:48 am
SoSly appreciate for the extremely fast reply. The dev team seriously did not get the shit clear. My one begins with 889457XXXXX.
But i noticed that when i jailbroke early on with blackra1n and restarted my phone. I didn’t have to rejailbreak for it to be on. So am i on old bootrom or new?
June 23rd, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Were these .ipsw’s created with version 4.0 or 4.1 of pwnage tool? Thanks!
June 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 pm
John if you can jailbreak and reboot your iPhone without connecting it torus computer then you got an old boot Rom. And @ Cody I’m uploading the new firmwares the were jailbroken with 4.0.1 as we speak
June 23rd, 2010 at 12:49 pm
I got this working alright, but Cydia chrashed on me a few times, I was required to use ultrasn0w even though my iPhone is unlocked from the carrier, and IM+ was buggy as hell. Those were just the things I found from using it for a few hours… anyone got any ideas? would the ipsw from 4.0.1 remedy some of this?

SWEET! Thanks SoSly! So once you upload the 3GS 4.0.1 Firmware i just plug my iPhone. Go into iTunes, ctrl+click restore, click on the 4.0.1 firmware (that you uploadeded) let the shit run and that’s it, iOS 4.0 thanks to you.
June 23rd, 2010 at 1:40 pm
A little summary/guide would be sweet once you upload the firmwares for less advanced users. And an explanation of old vs new bootrom. Linking a couple of mates/forum mates to this site for the firmwares soon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ObvgP4C-0Q great tutorial guys
June 23rd, 2010 at 2:04 pm
The custom ipsw you guys are making i’m guessing it just comes with Cydia and nothing else? Hopefully you didn’t change the bootlogo or anything.
June 23rd, 2010 at 2:30 pm
And “UN-ACTIVATED NO baseband UPDATE”
June 23rd, 2010 at 10:53 pm
I am so confused whether i can the ipsw or not. My model number is MCXXXX and my serial number is XX945XXXXXX. (which means it’s the new bootrom?)
However my iPhone is on 3.1.2 (7D11) and is jailbroken with BLACKRA1N. When i restart my phone I DO NOT have to plug it back into the computer and rejailbreak.
So do i have the OLD bootrom or the NEW bootrom?
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:29 pm
John the firmware that is on top is for users with legit iphone plans with sim cards for activation the bottom firmware are for those who need hactivation. They are basic firmwares with no special stuff just default everything with cydia installed. if you don’t have to plug in your iphone to boot it up with your computer then you can use the firmwares you have an old bootrom
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:33 pm
Thanks again SoSly. It is seriously bloody annoying on how TECHNICALLY what’s been going around that i have a “NEW BOOTROM” however judging that i am able to restart my phone jailbroken without plugging it back into my computer that i’m running the “OLD BOOTROM”. The dev team should have really clarified that. I reckon you should bump this post. Goddamn helpful SoSly, thanks again buddy.
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:37 pm
Im gettin the 1600 error please help.. I dont know how to fix that..
Bootrom 929
Thanks !!
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:41 pm
Posted it up on sinfuliphone for you SoSly. http://www.sinfuliphone.com/showthread.php?p=162803#post162803 Hopefully they’ll bump the post.
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:49 pm
That means you are either in dfu mode trying to restore when you need to be in just regular recovery mode or your in recovery mode and need to be in dfu mode pnizzle try either one and it should work. Thanks john just trying to help people. Everyone can make their own custom firmwares now though since snowbreeze was just released
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:57 pm
Yeah i’m just trying to spread the word. I have like 20 mates downloading your firmware atm. Haha don’t matter i just noticed snowbreeze was released too. However it’s easier downloading something already prepared rather than snowbreeze+firmware.
June 24th, 2010 at 2:22 am
thanks SoSly
but now im gettin the error 1604
so now im restoring back to regular 4.0..
anything else i should be doing??
thanks!!
June 24th, 2010 at 2:27 am
Hey SoSly, just an update. Everything is working fine! Thanks buddy. Also what was the previous iBooks issue anyway?
@pnizzle – what is your serial number/previos firmware/previous jailbreak (blackrain? or spirit?).
You should just go back to 3.1.2 then blackra1n jailbreak it. And go back to 4.0 with the custom firmware SoSly provided.
June 24th, 2010 at 3:09 am
@john,
serial 929 previous 3.1.3 jailbreak with spirit.
then i update to 4.0 thru itunes.
June 24th, 2010 at 3:09 am
@john,
how can i go back to 3.1.2 ??
thanks!!
June 24th, 2010 at 4:38 am
…do you not read bro? you can’t update to 4.0 if you use spirit because spirit doesn’t work with itunes 9.2.
Download 3.1.2 ispw, put iphone in recovery mode, open itunes, shift+click restore, select 3.1.2 ispw, let it restore, download blackrain.
June 24th, 2010 at 8:50 am
So I am a bit confused. I have a 3GS on 3.1.3 with baseband 5.12.01. I used spirit to jailbreak it, but the serial number is less than the above posted. Can I use these firmwares?? ~ Thanks!
June 24th, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Cool John glad everything is working, pnizzle it won’t work if you are on 3.1.3 jailbroken. You have to downgrade to 3.1.2 jailbreak with nlacktain or redsnow and then use a custom firmware
June 27th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
some how i can’t tethered using the custom firmware, is anyone else having that issue or it’s just me?
