Comcast: Use Your iPad As A Huge Remote

May 17, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Here’s an interesting demo video from Comcast that features an iPad as a remote control with a few extras. In the demo, Comcast’s Brian Roberts shows how to use the app to search for programming (both TV and On Demand), change channels and even program the Comcast DVR. Pretty neat.

Steve Ballmer Puppet Reviews The iPad

May 17, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

If you are familiar with  Loren Feldman from 1938Media, you know what this video is all about. In this video, Steve Ballmer doesn’t seem to like the iPad. No multi-tasking, no Farmville, no porn. How can this this thing be called a web tablet when you can’t get to 95% of the web with this thing. It’s like a big Palm pilot. Let me guess the next version will come with a camera. Before they get there though they need to install a clock and calculator on this thing.

Notcom Announces TinyUmbrella

May 17, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

If you are not a new iDevice user, or new to the “dark side” , then you know what firmware umbrella and tinytss is.  If you don’t here you go:

  • Umbrella – The tool simply performs the same challenge request that iTunes does during an iDevice restore. The difference is that it saves the results in a single shsh file. This file will give you the ability, to restore back to a previous firmware indefinitely
  • TinyTSS -  is a small java app that acts as your very own signature service.When iTunes verifies your restore for your iDevice, it ‘phones home’ to see if you are allowed to restore to the version you are requesting. With TinyTSS + the shsh blob file(s) you obtained with Umbrella, you will be able to restore to the version of those shsh files forever! Read more…

Use An iPad Micro SIM In An iPhone

May 14, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

There are countless videos and blog posts telling you how you can take your full size SIM card and cut it down to fit in your iPad, but frankly, that’s idiotic. I mean really, who’s going to cut up the SIM card they’re using in their $85+ a month iPhone to put in their iPad when they could just pay $30 a month for unlimited date on the iPad. Yes, you might be cutting up a T-Mobile SIM, but let’s face it… Do you really want to be using EDGE on an iPad?

Anyhow, that’s not what this post is about. I’m going to show you how to do the exact opposite of that, how to take your Micro SIM and use it in your iPhone for cheap data only service. It’s easier than you might think. Read more…

26% of Web Video Is Ready For The iPad

May 14, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Here’s an interesting stat — 26% of the video on the Web is iPad-ready, according to Mefeedia, a firm that supposedly monitors online video around the Internet. You may think that’s low (that means 74% of the web can’t be seen on the iPad), but that number actually represents a good amount of growth, as just a scant few months ago, only 10% of Web video was iPad-accessible, or encoded in H.264 or HTML 5, not Flash.

May 14, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Police were alerted to investigate Brian Hogan’s possession of the prototype iPhone after his roommate called Apple Security out of fear she might be considered an accomplice in the theft.

A new report by Kim Zetter published by Wired identified the roommate named in the affidavit, and reported that she contacted contacted Apple after Hogan connected the prototype iPhone to her computer.

iPhone Image Data Hints At More Camera’s On Next iPhone

May 14, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Well, this is interesting. Our twitter follower @chenks points out that, hidden in the metadata of a picture taken with his OS 4.0-enabled iPhone, there is a title stating that the picture came from the phone’s “Back Camera.” Of course, if the phone currently has a back camera, there’s a possibility that it could, in the future, have a “Side Camera,” or more appropriately, a “Front Camera.”

We’re being facetious, of course. This certainly seems like yet another hint that the next version of the iPhone (expected sometime next month) will have a front facing camera; that’s not only a long-awaited feature for the iPhone faithful, but it was also seen on that lost iPhone prototype not long ago. BeeJive IM for iPad Submitted to App Store

May 13, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

BeeJive IM for iPad has been submitted to the App Store for review and should be available by next week, according to a Wired report.

The site had a chance to try an almost finalized version…

My favorite part about the BeeJive UI is it lists your chat sessions in a column on the right side of the screen. You can see a preview of what a person is saying in a bubble, which eliminates the need to switch back and forth between chats over and over. Selecting a chat in the right window displays the full conversation in the center screen. Read more…
