Gizmodo has posted some background information about how they obtained the iPhone 4G prototype and who lost it in the first place.
The Gourmet Haus Staudt. A nice place to enjoy good German ales. And if you are an Apple Software Engineer named Gray Powell and you get one too many beers, it’s also a nice place to lose the next-generation iPhone. Read more…

Developers have done a little more poking around with iPhone OS 4.0, and it looks like Apple is set to get much more social with the next version of the iPhone. Apple considers the iPhone 4G prototype being showcased around the web to be stolen property, not a lost device, according to Daring Fireball.
The new owner of the device said it was found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside an iPhone 3G case; however, this information can’t really be confirmed.
In Gizmodo’s hands-on report they note that Gruber said the device was reported lost and Apple wants it back. That isn’t technically correct as Gruber makes clear…
Note that I did not use the word “lost”. It is my understanding that Apple considers this unit stolen, not lost. And as for the “someone(s)” who “found” it, I believe it is disingenuous for Gizmodo to play coy, as though they don’t know who the someones are.

Similar to the last two years, AT&T sources say the company has put a block on employees taking vacation in June, according to the BGR.
The only time AT&T does a straight block like this is for iPhone launches. What’s interesting is, if AT&T is blocking June, perhaps the iPhone will launch a little earlier than July this year.
It has been rumored that Apple plans to unveil the new iPhone on June 22nd. Perhaps it will be available shortly after?

A French 3D modeler called Jpog has admitted to making the iPhone 4G back cover images with 3DS Max, reveals MobileCrunch.
It’s likely he used Photoshop to add the grainy spy shot feel to the photos.
While the images have been proven fake many are hopeful that Apple will extend its aluminum design to the iPhone; which would give it a nice solid feel similar to the iPad.
