Apple Could Lower iPad Pricing??

February 08, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple plans to be “nimble” on pricing of the iPad and could lower prices if demand for the tablet lags.

This information comes via a note from Credit Suisse analyst Bill Shope who met recently with Apple executives.

Apple wants the iPad to be the best device for a few key use cases. For instance, the company believes it could eventually be seen as superior to both handheld and notebook devices for browsing the Internet, using the App Store, and consuming mobile media (video, photos, and e-books). Read more…

iPhone 4G Parts Revealed, Could The Next iPhone Be Bigger??

February 08, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

iPhone repair site iResQ claims to have obtained parts for the fourth generation iPhone. Its unclear if these are authentic parts; however, you can find the pictures and their observations below.

1) The LCD appears to be factory glued to the digitizer which is more similar to the first generation iPhones than the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The digitizer can be separated from the LCD on the 3G and 3GS models, which should be interesting to all, but for the repair folks like us–this means that the 4G screen repair price will be higher since both parts will have to be replaced at once.

2) The iPhone 4G front panel seems to be about 1/4″ longer than its predecessors. Read more…

Dev Team Releases PwnageTool 3.1.5

February 07, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone Dev-Team has released PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X which lets some iPhones upgrade safely to the 3.1.3 firmware.

Using PwnageTool to upgrade will preserve your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. If you are using the blacksn0w unlock at baseband 05.11.07 you will need to stay at 3.1.2.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak. Read more…

Could HD Video Recording Be Coming for iPhone 4G???

February 06, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Almost lost in the enormous hype surrounding the iPad release and subsequent Apple ‘town hall’ was the pre-announcement of the fourth-generation iPhone, which Steve Jobs declared would be an “A+ upgrade.” Rumors had been going around about a possible CDMA version of the phone which did not emerge of the iPad event, and there’s scanty evidence even to base a rumor on. The iPhone 3.2 SDK, though, at least provides some clues as toApple ’s internal development. Hidden in the details is an increased maximum video width for an unknown device believed to be the 4G iPhone, at a resolution that indicates that the new phone’s camera will be capable of HD recording. 75% Chance AT&T Keeps iPhone Exclusivity In 2010

February 05, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone will inevitably be available on multiple carriers in the U.S., one analyst believes, though 2010 is not likely to be the year Apple ends its agreement with AT&T.

Based on that assessment, Jonathan Chaplin, research analyst with Credit Suisse, downgraded Verizon stock to a “neutral” rating. The iPhone remaining exclusive to AT&T, he said, will have a negative impact on Verizon.

“Our analysis suggests that Apple will eventually sell the device at all carriers; however, there is a much greater probability that AT&T keeps exclusivity for another 12-18 months than investors realize,” Chaplin wrote. “We think this has profound impacts for Apple, the carriers and the other handset OEMs.” Read more…

Geohot: “iPhone OS 3.1.3 Jailbreak Is Easy”

February 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Geohot has tweeted saying that the jailbreak is easy but only helps those dumb enough to upgrade.

I hear rumors going around that the 3.1.3 jailbreak is hard. It isn’t. But the only people it helps are those dumb enough to upgrade. Sorry.

These comments indicate that it’s unlikely the BlackRa1n jailbreak will be upgraded to support the new firmware.

iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G users – please be very careful you do not upgrade. Most other users can still jailbreak using RedSn0w. See here for more information.
