The Apple iPhone Firmware version 3.1.3 is now out. Please do not upgrade until further notice by the iPhone Dev Team.

This update for iPhone and iPod touch contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• Improves accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS
• Resolves issue where third-party apps would not launch in some instances
• Fixes bug that may cause an app to crash when using the Japanese Kana keyboard

A photo of the next generation iPhone has been in the wild for nearly a week, according to ‘impeccable’ AppleInsider sources.

The reason no one spotted the photo is because it was overshadowed by the company’s new iPad.

Engadget obtained a leaked photo of the iPad just before it was announced. It appears that the iPhone in the photo is a prototype of one of the handsets due to hit the market in about five months. Read more…

Apple may be working on a second Mac OS X based tablet, according to TechCrunch sources.

The information ‘originated from a good source’, though it was a second hand source. Some of the main details were corroborated with another source as well.

It appears that Apple is pretty far along on work on second bigger tablet device (possibly up to 15.4″) and it could run a more traditional version of OS X, unlike the iPad which operates on an iPhone based OS. Read more…

Some of you might remember that we talked about Cyder before, a software that allows us to manage Cydia straight from our PCs. Today Cyder was updated to version 2.01 RC2 and improved.

The improvements are related to the to the software itself. You will get a new UI and pretty much all the problems that you encountered in the previous version were fixed. The video above shows you what this software is capable of, but the presentation is in french. The good this is that you pretty much don’t need to speak french to get it.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9, a cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing tool for iPhones and iPod touches. This version adds support for the iPod touch 3G as well as IPCC tethering.

How is it different from blackra1n?
- It offers custom logos and verbose boot
- It installs Cydia, afc2, and the IPCC tethering hack without needing separate downloads. Because they’re all installed in one go, redsn0w doesn’t need the multiple levels of installs that blackra1n requires.
- It uses their original Pwnage bootrom exploit for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod 1G. (Because it’s a bootrom exploit, it can’t be fixed by Apple without a new hardware release.) Note that redsn0w 0.9 does use the USB exploit for iPhone 3GS and iPod 2G+3G running 3.1.2, but that exploit will be fixed in Apple’s next FW release. Read more…

If your one of the many iPhone users who have unlocked your iPhone on OS 3.x, then chances are you’ve lost the ability to receive push notifications. I for one lost this ability with my unlocked iPhone 3GS. This was a big disappointment for me as I used the feature every day. I spent countless hours trying various fixes out there, including the PushFix found on various cydia repos (which really just made things worse), manually installingpush certificates, and even trying to generate my own certificates. Despite a slow start, Apple’s smartphone presence in China could grow to 5 million iPhone sales per year — and could even double that if the company were to offer a lower cost prepaid model.

Analyst Katy Huberty with Morgan Stanley issued a note to investors Friday stating that she is bullish on the prospect of improved future iPhone sales in China. This week, Apple executive revealed that more than 200,000 iPhones have been activated since the handset launched on carrier China Unicom last fall.

Huberty noted that the current install base of unlocked iPhones in China is about 2 million, according to a new study conducted by Morgan Stanley. That is already similar to the largest European and Asian countries. Read more…

You know for some strange reason I agree with this guy but i’m still drawn to the iPad. I will be getting one as soon as they are available to do a video review on it, not a professional one but a real review that mentions the negatives too unlike other reviews that only see the positive.
