The Best iPhone Costume’s Ever

October 26, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

You have to hand it to Reko and Bobby for their stick-to-it-iveness; they were behind a similar set of iPhone costumes in 2007, but those didn’t have the fully-functional power of these new outfits. Yes, those are LCD TVs on the front (not touchable, sadly) showing content from the (almost certainly) jailbroken iPhones mounted on top; yes, each getup weighs 85 pounds because it includes a car battery to power the display. I can see how the illusion would be broken by a 500-foot charging cable trailing behind them as they trick-or-treat their way around the subdivision.

Springsorter Released In Cydia

October 25, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

SpringSorter monitors how much you run the different applications installed on SpringBoard and allows you to reorganize the icon layout, making the things you use the most on top. This package was designed with many usage scenarios in mind and thus has lots of configuration options:

  • Rearrange your SpringBoard icons according to how much you use them.
  • Allows you to sort icons per page, or globally across all pages.
  • Protect pages you don’t want to auto rearrange.
  • Set a minimum amount of application usage before starting to move it.
  • Create a backup of your SpringBoard icon layout and restore it.
  • Manual or on-the-fly operating modes.

After installing SpringSorter it will automatically start to monitor your application usage behind the scenes. You can then start sorting and configurating the program via the settings program on your device.

Blackra1n: Icy Installation Warning

October 23, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Just a warning about blackra1n. Geohot released blackra1n a couple weeks ago, and it was pretty good. Unfortunately, Geohot has included a very buggy version of Icy which, when installed, will pretty much screw up your whole jailbreak causing you to have to restore.

Shame on Geohot for not fixing this. We have told him numerous times there are issues. Users have messaged him, he has been notified, he just doesnt care. Anyways:

–> Do NOT install Icy in Blackra1n <–

The icy bundle is broken and does not have permissions to install software, but that’s not the worst part. Blackra1n install of Icy breaks cydia and rock your phone since it has a very old version of dpkg. This is the core to all these installers.  Since icy is usually installed last, it overwrites dpkg with its own. This causes things like winterboard not working, sbsettings not working. What is really happening is mobile substrate cannot be installed (among other things).
I get about 20 emails a day on various issues that all stem from this one issue. So please spread the word. Do not install Icy in blackra1n.

Note: Icy is not to blame here, but the installation of Icy on blackra1n. Icy bundle in pwnagetool is fine. The problem is Geohot found a very old Icy and did not get it from rip-dev guys.

Ripdev Finally Closing Its Doors!!

October 23, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

RipDev

R.I.P Ripdev it was fun at the beginning. You new jailbreakers probably haven’t heard much of this team but just so you kow they certainly where the big dogs back in the 1.x jailbroken firmware days. When one of the first jailbreaks came out which was the TIFF exploit for 1.x you would have installer.app automatically installed. The best thing about installing and jailbreaking your iphone back then was that all you had to do is go to jailbreakme.com on through your iphone’s web browser, install a package and viola you were done installer.app was installed so you could start installing all of these great 3rd party goodies.
