The information on this isn’t much, but by the screenshot, we can already see that using a double-tap to the Home button, we will open a new screen with thumbnails of all open applications so as to quickly switch from one to another.

Mozilla to Release iPhone App in a Few Weeks

October 19, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

CEO John Lilly has announced that Mozilla will release an iPhone app to the App Store in the next few weeks. Lily revealed this information to GigaOM during an interview at the annual confab organized by students of the Haas School of Business at Berkeley.

“Mozilla will release an app to the iPhone app store in the next few weeks,” Lilly said. “It’ll surprise people.”

When asked if Weave was going to be part of the new iPhone app Lily and Jay Sullivan, Mozilla’s VP of Mobile just smiled and remained silent.

Weave is an in-development add-on for Mozilla Firefox. Its purpose is to push metadata out onto the cloud. One use is to allow users to synchronize bookmarks and browsing history across multiple computers, as demonstrated by the Weave Sync component. [W]

Apple has traditional rejected any application which could duplicate or mimic the functionality of current or future Apple apps. It may be difficult for Mozilla to get their app approved.

SMS Switcher Enables Multiple iPhone SMS Libraries

October 19, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

SMS Switcher is a new app that allows you to have multiple SMS Libraries on your iPhone.

You can quickly without any technical knowledge switch them (no reboot/respring needed). For example, you can use one library to chat with your lover and the general library to chat with your fiance. SMS (and MMS) are saved and read from the active library (you can have only one library active at a time).

SMS Switcher by Chris is available from the Big Boss Cydia repository.

DevTeam: Only Tethered Jailbreak May Be Possible In New Ipod Touch and 3GS

October 18, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The bootrom for new 8GB iPod Touch shows that it’s still got 24K overflow…it *may* simply need some address tweaks

Update #1 10/17/2009

We can now confirm that the new 8GB iPod touch is not vulnerable to 24Kpwn. It took just 6 bytes for Apple to fix this:
load_module+16 43 68 LDR R3, [R0,#bdevImg.totalSize]
load_module+18 9A 42 CMP bufsize, R3
load_module+1A 13 D3 BCC FAIL find_named_image(illb): 000100d8 00024100 696c6c62 696d6733
dataSize totalSize illb img3 Given how small the fix is, it seems likely that it was also applied to that updated bootrom of very recent iPhone 3GS devices. We’ll be able to confirm this once we have an actual one of those in hand.

Update #2 10/17/2009

Confirmation that the new 8GB iPod touch is at least a tethered jailbreak. This device doesn’t require personalized img3 files in the way that the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G do. For this reason, it will “always” be jailbreakable (no need to rush and get your ECID signed hashes like you do for the 3GS and ipt3G). But for the foreseeable future, it will be a tethered jailbreak only.

Although there’s very little Verizon Wireless branding, customers are directed to a website where they can sign up for more details as they become available. Read more…

Devs Quickly Taking Advantage Of Free Apps In App Purchases

October 17, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It was just yesterday that Apple announced they would allow free apps to enable in-app purchases, and developers are already jumping on the “get the app for free, buy the content later” business model as quickly as they can. ngmoco came out swinging, as Touch Arcade reports, with both a free intro version of Rolando 2 out for purchase, with later chapters of the game as add-ons. They’ve also been working on a shooter called Eliminate, and we’re now told that title will be free as well, with extra content to buy later.

The creators of Urban Rivals, an app that is based on a virtual trading card game, have let us know that they too plan to go the free-with-microtransactions model as soon as their app is released, and Read more…

October 17, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Orbit, otherwise known as Expose for iPhone, has been submitted to the Cydia Store and should be available soon.

The application created by Steven Troughton-Smith was inspired by an Ocean Observations concept video. Using the app you can quickly jump to Springboard pages in an Expose type fashion.

Orbit will cost $1.99 to purchase (just enough to make sure he can afford to make a version 2.0) and will be available soon.
