Apple OKs first porn star apps for the iPhone

September 24, 2009 :: Posted by - Thomas :: Category - News

“Apple has approved the first two iPhone apps dedicated to the careers of popular (or, ahem, so we’re told) porn stars”, reports Cnet earlier today. Developed by GrindHouse Mobile and the stars, these apps set a precedent as the first time that Apple has the allowed the porn industry into the store in such an obvious way. While more “in-your-face” then some of the already available apps, the content of these new apps is still rather tame (meaning no nudity), although GrindHouse did admit that the original version was “a little too ‘hot’ for Apple’s compliance department.” and had to be redone to the current ones. AT&T Nervous About Upcoming iPhone MMS Launch?

September 24, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

DSLReports claims to have received word from a source noting that AT&T is extremely nervous about the impending launch of MMS for the iPhone scheduled for this Friday. Early testing of the service has apparently already placed a strain on the company’s MMS servers, resulting in a test outage yesterday and a last-minute rush to beef up capacity beyond the measures already taken.

AT&T and its MMS partners are already seeing “record traffic during peak hours of the night” with just the users selected for testing.

That early testing has been a little rocky, with AT&T seeing a fairly significant test outage yesterday Read more…

Concept: iPhone Home Screen Redesign

September 24, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Teehan from Teehan+Lax has posted his vision for the iPhone Home Screen. Unfortunately, Apple has prevented any changes to the home screen via the SDK; however, its possible that someone could create an implementation of this for users with jailbroken devices.

You can see from the screens it’s essentially just a scrollable list of applications and notifications. We envision it behaving in much the same way that the list view does in the Calendar application. By default it may track things like missed calls, unread emails and calendar events. But what if users could allow other apps to feed into this screen as well? If I’m a Facebook junkie I’d be able to tell the Facebook app to include certain feeds on my home screen. If I was a frequent traveler I may include the Tripit app to show me my upcoming trips. The options would only be limited by what apps you have installed.

Basically the design allows you to create a scrollable home screen of the stuff that matters to you.

Apple, rapper Eminem could end up in trial over iTunes battle

September 24, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Eminem Vs Apple

If Apple and Eight Mile Style LLC, publisher of artist Eminem, are unable to resolve a dispute by Thursday, the two parties will end up in trial over the sale of songs on iTunes.

The lawsuit stems from 2007, when the rapper sued Apple over the sale of his songs in iTunes, alleging the tracks were sold without his blessing. Also included in the lawsuit is Aftermath Records, the company that controls Eminem’s songs.

According to Reuters, the matter will head to trial this week if the parties involved are not able to reach a last-minute deal. Eminem and Eight Mile Style allege that Apple is providing downloads of the artist’s song through iTunes without proper permission. Apple, along with Aftermath Records, contends that not only is their arrangement legal, but the publisher has received royalties for the sale of songs on the iTunes Music Store.

A conference with Judge Virginia Morgan is scheduled for Wednesday with the Read more…

Kid Finds Porn in Apple Store & Angry Mom Complains

September 22, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Porn and iPhone, it is out there and every once in a while you may even find porn in there. In an Apple Retail Store on one of the iPhone and iPod Touch demos, that is.

That’s exactly what happened just the other day as a mother found her 10 year old girl mesmerized by some X-rated content on one of the Apple Store demo devices:

“I called to complain and was told matter of factly by staff this happens a lot as people come in and download it for a laugh, I don’t find it funny and all my friends think it’s disgusting, but Apple say there is nothing they can do to stop it.”

Apple does a fantastic job of keeping smut out of iTunes and their App Store, surely they can figure something out for their real-world stores.

The In-App Purchase: A big failure?

September 22, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Probably will not sound like a totally unexpected news but according to the opinion of the big companies to Purchase In-App is a real failure.

Immagine 18

Was to be expected because usually users who purchase an application are not very responsive to spend more money to get them to function in more than a level pack add-on. The AppStore has accustomed us well, at best, with regular updates and free (read Pocket God) by which the Purchase In-App can not reach that level of satisfaction necessary to motivate developers.

Pangea Software, with one million copies sold in riddles, said that only 20-25 people a day using the in-app purchase and expectations were much larger.

Have you been using the in-app purchase feature.
