Google today announced today that it has released an unredacted copy (PDF) of its response to an investigation by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission into Apple’s apparent rejection of the company’s Google Voice iPhone application. Most significantly, Google’s filing claims that Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller personally informed Google that the Google Voice iPhone application had been rejected for the reason that it “duplicated the core dialer functionality of the iPhone”.

The primary points of contact between the two companies were Alan Eustace, Google Senior Vice President of Engineering & Research, and Phil Schiller, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. On July 7, Mr. Eustace and Mr. Schiller spoke over the phone. Read more…

SpotSMS is a mod, that once installed, allows the stock Spotlight Search to search within your SMS (and MMS) messages. There is no icon for this mod, it is a code mod. It is activated as soon as it is installed and would have to be uninstalled to be removed. To use the mod, you can go into the stock Spotlight Search and enter text that you would like to search for. The search will start when you have entered at least three characters. SMS results will have the Messages icon next to them. You can tap on an SMS result to view the full text message.

Anyone familiar with the “manual” downgrade their iPhone 3GS has from 3.1 to 3.0 times the problems should look at this program, “Assistant 3Gs downgrade” from difrnt.com cares about the hosts file and helps you step by step in activating the DFU modes.

Afterwards you can then proceed according to our instructions (from step 3).

The 800KB great program is only available for Windows and, of course, costs nothing.

We have released a new update for Ringtones coming to version 2.88 and becomes compatible with firmware 3.0 and 3.1. The purpose of this application is to convert the songs in the media library, into ringtones for iPhone to be set as ringintones.

The operation is very simple: By running the application you must click Start Converting. Now scroll through the list of artists and choose the song you want. A click on the title will bring up a pop-up asking if you use the Quick Convert Convert or Advanced. As we have seen, the 3.1 firmware enables the possibility to change the video within the camera roll and now, some guys from the forum ModMyi, have released a new toggle called VideoMover, able to move inside the roll, all Video recorded with Cycorder, video recorder 3G and those downloaded from YouTube!

Screenshots of the next version of Tap Tap Revenge may have been leaked online, according to no dpad.

According to the screenshots, you will be Able to create your own character along with some other cool features. It has already been confirmed that TTR3 will include DLC with more songs and other features in packs. Chip design firm ARM today announced the development of two dual-core chip designs based on the company’s Cortex-A9 platform. Implementations of the new chip designs, which will deliver performance in excess of 2 GHz while drawing less than 0.25 W of power per CPU, will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.

The Cortex-A9 speed-optimized hard macro implementation will provide system designers with an industry standard ARM processor incorporating aggressive low-power techniques to further extend ARM’s performance leadership into high-margin consumer and enterprise devices within the power envelope necessary for compact, high-density and thermally constrained environments. This hard macro implementation operates in excess of 2GHz when selected from typical silicon and represents an ideal solution for high-margin performance-oriented applications.

ARM is positioning the chip design for use in such consumer electronics devices as set-top boxes, digital TVs, and printers, although it has been claimed in the past that the chips would be appropriate for mobile platforms and would appear in those devices in 2010.

The iPhone 3GS utilizes a Cortex-A8-based processor from Samsung, suggesting that the Cortex-A9 could be a natural fit for the next-generation iPhone, although the thermally-constrained environment and energy requirements of the iPhone would likely dictate that the chip be underclocked as has been done for several iPhone and iPod touch models.

Apple, which acquired ARM chip design firm P.A. Semi in April 2008, has been rumored to be working on its own ARM-based chip designs for both the iPhone and the much-anticipated Apple tablet, and the introduction of dual-core Cortex-A9 processors would offer the company additional computing power and energy-saving options upon which to base its device designs.
