iPhone 4 FaceTime Video Calls Won’t Use Cell Minutes

An Apple representative has clarified that the new FaceTime video calls won’t use up carrier minutes, even when a video chat is originated during a phone call.

The news, highlighted report by Dan Frommer of Silicon Alley Insider, means that users won’t have to worry about how long they talk when establishing video calls over WiFi.

“The voice call ends as soon as the FaceTime call connects,” Frommer wrote. “The FaceTime call is over WiFi so does not use carrier minutes.”

O2: Apple iPhone 4 In Short Supply Until August

Apple’s iPhone hasn’t even been released yet but supplies are already constrained, with one UK mobile phone carrier warning this could be the case until August.

In a website note called “O2′s response to iPhone stock shortage”, the carrier warns that iPhone 4 will only be made available to existing O2 customers at launch. Read more…

Apple on Friday debuted its new interface for the MobileMe subscription service, sporting a new look for its me.com e-mail and adding a Find My iPhone application for tracking a lost handset on iOS devices.

The new MobileMe Mail has been in beta since May for users who chose to opt in. The update features a new widescreen view interface, improved performance, server-side e-mail rules, a formatting toolbar for adding rich text to e-mails, and new SSL security when composing and sending e-mail.
