Apple really has had a terrible time with the launch of its most succesful product ever, the iPhone 4  — this morning the company has been forced to admit that white models of the iPhone 4 won’t ship until later this year, citing manufacturing problems.

Statement follows:

White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

We’re sure that’s going to leave some customers disappointed, but let’s face it — sales are so brisk at the moment most of us are having a tough time getting an iPhone at all, let alone the white model.

Apple has started refunding Bumper purchases today and will continue doing them in batches throughout the week, according to MacRumors forum poster Chodite.

“Just got off the phone with Apple and they said that those that purchased with debit cards should see a refund in 6-8 days…credit card refunds will be by the NEXT credit card cycle… refunds will be AUTOMATIC. Also, those interested in the “free” case, there is no estimated date on when that will go live but she said that information will be made available on Apple’s site when it goes live”, posted web4fun.

Apple has also begun sending emails to those who await shipment of their Bumper to let them know it will be free.

Today, Skype announced that its iOS application (finally!) has multitasking. (iTunes)

What’s New In This Version:
● Run Skype in the background with multitasking in iOS4. Receive Skype calls and IM while other apps are running or when your iPhone is locked. You can also continue your call while you switch to another application. Multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
