75% Chance AT&T Keeps iPhone Exclusivity In 2010

February 05, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone will inevitably be available on multiple carriers in the U.S., one analyst believes, though 2010 is not likely to be the year Apple ends its agreement with AT&T.

Based on that assessment, Jonathan Chaplin, research analyst with Credit Suisse, downgraded Verizon stock to a “neutral” rating. The iPhone remaining exclusive to AT&T, he said, will have a negative impact on Verizon.

“Our analysis suggests that Apple will eventually sell the device at all carriers; however, there is a much greater probability that AT&T keeps exclusivity for another 12-18 months than investors realize,” Chaplin wrote. “We think this has profound impacts for Apple, the carriers and the other handset OEMs.” Read more…

Geohot: “iPhone OS 3.1.3 Jailbreak Is Easy”

February 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Geohot has tweeted saying that the jailbreak is easy but only helps those dumb enough to upgrade.

I hear rumors going around that the 3.1.3 jailbreak is hard. It isn’t. But the only people it helps are those dumb enough to upgrade. Sorry.

These comments indicate that it’s unlikely the BlackRa1n jailbreak will be upgraded to support the new firmware.

iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G users – please be very careful you do not upgrade. Most other users can still jailbreak using RedSn0w. See here for more information.

Watch An iPhone Dev Make An App In One Week

February 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It sounds like the premise for a new reality show — a developer writes an iPhone app in one week while the world watches.

That’s exactly what Sahil Lavingia is planning to do starting on Sunday, February 7th. Lavingia is the developer behind Color Stream and the Twizzle Twitter client [iTunes Links], and he’ll be posting updates to keep us all apprised of his progress at his One Week App blog.

On the blog, Lavingia will be posting screenshots of his coding, timelapse movies (sorry, no streaming video of Lavingia at work), and other notes about his work as he moves forward. Read more…

Where to get some cool iphone icon keychains

February 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Just like those furry Tribbles on Star Trek, these cute little felt iPhone iCon key chains can rapidly reproduce and are capable of eating a planet barren if their breeding is not controlled.

Rabbit Rampage, the same designer who brought us the epic PlayStation and XBox 360 iPhone cases has delivered up a fresh vision that are certain to become the new hotness in fashionable iPhone accessories for Spring. Check them out HERE

Expect to pay $16.00 for a set of three (1.5″ x 1.5″) of these handcrafted key rings. I’m not sure how the Mac Finder guy got in there, but it’s obvious that one of these iCons is not like the others. Get over it! The “email” key chain comes with four messages already waiting. That’s why I love that one the most.

Future iPhones Could Share Current Location During A Call

February 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Sharing your current location with a contact could be as simple as a button press in a future iPhone upgrade, according to a new Apple patent application revealed this week.

While the assisted GPS in the iPhone currently allows users to view their own location through the integrated Maps application, the described addition would make it simple and easy to share that data with someone else. The location data could be quickly shared with a person who is currently connected with a phone call, or with someone who was recently sent a text message.

As most of you know already, Apple has lifted the restrictions against making VoIP calls over a 3G connection, and a handful of apps have already “flipped a switch” behind the scenes to enable such calls. However, the most high-profile VoIP app on the App Store, Skype, has yet to follow suit.

Dev Team Releases Redsn0w 0.9.4 For Firmware

February 03, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone Dev-Team has just released redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (No unlock for 3G), iPod touch 1G and iPod touch 2G (older Non-MC models only). Do not update to iPhone 3.1.3 firmware yet if you want to preserve your unlock for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G (new models) and iPod touch 3G. This is because the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware updates baseband to 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which makes it impossible to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS and 3G.

ATT Outbid Other Carriers for iPad??

February 03, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

FoxNEWS correspondent Clayton Morris is reporting that AT&T outbid every other carrier for the iPad leaving even him surprised.

“Where was Verizon? I thought it would be both carriers. As I reported before the event, Verizon appeared to be on board and was even working out the final details of the partnership.”

Sources at Verizon say that the company is more interested in the lucrative iPhone contracts; however, the two companies are still “very much talking and plan to bring an iPhone and an iPad” to the CDMA network this year after AT&T’s exclusive agreement with Apple expires. Read more…
