Skype and Fring Go to War Over VOiP Video Calls

July 12, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

VOiP clients Fring and Skype are engaged in a war of words over video calling and alleged service blocks. Of course, the real losers are the end users.

Fring is a relatively small player when compared to Skype, but it has been successful in large part because the service is interoperable with other VOiP services, including GoogleTalk, SIP and Skype. The fact that you can make Fring-to-Skype calls within the Fring app has been a real boon for platforms that either have limited Skype support or for users who want to take advantage of some of Fring’s other features. July 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Remember a while back when I posted about comex working on a flash implementation for i-devices. He has announced that he has ported Android’s Adobe’s flash runtime to the iPad. He calls the program frash which can run flash natively in mobile safari. As of right now this only works on the iPad but 3Gs and iPhone 4 support is coming later down the road. Other i-devices are out of luck due to technical reasons. Read more…

We’ve also added an Android icon to the boot menu to make it more easily accessible.. Read more…

“Finally breaking radio silence to bring you Android on the iPhone. :)

I’ve been working on this quietly in the background. Sorry about the initial video quality, but YouTube promises that the quality will get better as the video gets processed more. The back part of the version I uploaded to Vimeo was cut off. Read more…

iPhone And Android App Downloads Are Almost Identical

March 01, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Comparing to Apple’s app store, the Android Market is still an underdog. Consumers who are considering an android hendheld, are likely to browse the web to see how android apps compare to apple’s apps.

Based on a  AdMob .pdf metrics report, Android and iPhone users download a similar number of apps every month and spend a similar amount of time using the apps. The same reports shows that iPod Touch users download an average of 12 apps a month, 37% more apps than iPhone and Android users. Well you can only do so much with an iPod Touch.

Most iPhone Users Probably Live Near A Big City

February 28, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The end of this week has brought a little flurry of information about the differences between iPhone and Android users. First up, Admob has released the results of a survey that says the iPhone is twice as popular as comparable smartphones in both young and old demographics. Unfortunately, we can only guess as to why (it would be a little more interesting if either age showed a preference for one phone over another) Read more…

Aphonia A6 Chinese iPhone Clone Running Android OS

November 11, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Have you ever tried to imagine the iPhone with an operating system other than Apple’s iPhone OS. The Chinese certainly have and they successfully made an iphone clone as usual running the Google Android OS 1.5, this is quite interesting as it brings ideas and speculation about running other OS’s on the iPhone. Oh how we can only dream of being able to boot an iphone and choose which OS to run such as symbian, Android OS, heck even the Palm Pre’s OS and yet it again it will only be a dream.

Motorola Droid, The iPhone’s New Competitor

October 20, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

We absolutely nailed this puppy to the wall over and over and over again, so it’s only fitting we’d be doing the first actual unveiling, right? We’re not going to get too in-depth though, that will come at a later time. Here are some brief thoughts before the photos:

* It’s running Android 2.0. Duh.
* It’s thin. Just slightly thicker than an iPhone 3GS and the thinnest QWERTY-slider we’ve ever seen.
* It is the fastest Android device we’ve ever used. (It’s running a TI OMAP3430 processor)
* The feel of the device is very reminiscent of the OQO 02 model computer. Just smaller. It’s metal with a non-spring-assisted slide, very sturdy, and half soft-touch plastic. Read more…
