Appstore App iVideoCamera Lets You Record Video On Your Old iPhone

December 14, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It appears Apple really is loosening it’s grip on what developers can submit to the AppStore. I received an email today that informed me of a new App in the AppStore called iVideoCamera that lets your record about 15fps on anyiPhone.

Although this makes me wonder, with Apple being so kind to the new handful of Video apps, does this mean that we might be seeing OS 3.2 soon? And could it possibly include the addition ofvideo recording for the iPhone 2G/3G? It’s quite possible at this point, as they wouldn’t want too many apps “duplicating” a function that “already exists”.

iVideoCamera also gives you the ability to save to your camera roll or “Photos” and share via, FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and more to come. With the approval of this App the devs are very excited to start updates. First Knocking, then UStream, I wonder what we will see next in the lineup of Video apps…

iVideoCamera is available in the AppStore for $0.99.

The basic idea behind ProSwitcher is you can switch between apps while automatically back grounding the app you leave. ProSwitcher integrates with Backgrounder similar to how Kirikae does it. ProSwitcher is highly customizable with the options to select background, dim back ground, swipe to close etc. Another handy feature is the ability to quit apps from within ProSwitcher. Just select the application that you want to quit with the customary finger  slide, then hit quit.

1,011 Titles Removed From App Store For Fake Reviews

December 08, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Molinker, the prolific Chinese development company behind numerous iPhone apps, saw all its titles pulled from the App Store on Sunday after an attentive user noted that most – if not all – of its five-starreviews appeared to be fake. The scam caused over 1,000 apps – nearly 1% of all of the titles on the App Store – to disappear at once.

The user, “SCW,” contacted a Glyn Evans of the iphoneography blog whom he knew to have contacts at Apple top management. SCW had noted something odd about the glowing (and poorly written) reviews of the “NightCam Pro” app and went through the applications offered by Molinker. As many as 90% of the reviews on some of their applications appeared to be written by a group of people who only reviewed Molinker applications. On “NightCam Pro”, for example, 42 of the 44 5-starreviews appeared to be fake.

Study: Non-Jailbroken iPhones More Vulnerable to Malware

December 08, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Slashdot reported last week on research published by Swiss iPhone developer Nicolas Seriot about security holes in unjailbroken – that’s UNjailbroken – iPhones that could potentially compromise email accounts, browser history and even keytaps held in cache. The closed and unmodifiable nature of the stock iPhone OS means that malware could be carried by any app: even one legitimately purchased and downloaded from the App Store.

Apple’s App Store Approval Getting Automated??

November 21, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple has added a new automated layer to its approval process for App Store software, but according to one developer, it’s not perfect.

Apple recently began using computers to automatically scan for the use of private application programming interfaces. The new automated scan does not change any of the rules Apple has had in place for the App Store: Private APIs have always been banned from use in iPhone software. But according to Gizmodo, the rule was not entirely enforced, because it can be difficult to determine when an API falls within the rules and when it does not.

Should You Use An App That Apple Rejected??

November 17, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It doesn’t happen so much anymore, but not too long ago you’d hear about a new offering arriving in the App Store that would stir up a little controversy (the NetShare tethering app springs to mind). They’d enjoy some fanfare and a ton of purchases for a few days before being summarily removed, never to return and often without a thorough explanation from Apple. A relatively small number of users would retain possession of the app and would take a bit of pride in knowing that they were in the right place at just the right time to snag a copy of the app before it was yanked.
