We did inform you all yesterday that Spirit untethered jailbreak for all the iDevices including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will be released very soon. And now we have been tipped by our readers that it is in fact coming as soon as this Friday (if all goes according to plan) – the same day on which iPad 3G ships. Read more…
MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team is warning users who are hoping to use a userland jailbreak for the iPad, iPhone, or iPod to hold off on updating to iTunes 9.1.1.
Today’s 9.1.1 iTunes is safe for PwnageTool&redsn0w. But those hoping to use userland JBs (like Spirit) should hold off.
In general, those using *any* userland JB should avoid iTunes updates, since iTunes can detect & remove it.
It is widely expected that the “Spirit” userland jailbreak by comex will be the first jailbreak to be released for the iPad. Spirit also provides an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch.

“Banned” might not be the right word, but that’s what user serif_hashim is saying.
He says he’s been denied access to the App Store from their iPhones by Apple. When sherif_hashim tried to connect, he was greeted with the image at right, which he explained via Twitter:
“Your Apple ID was banned for security reasons”, that’s what i get when i try to go to the app store, they must be really angry
)))) and guess what my apple ID was, “[email protected]”, what a fool was me not to notice

The iPhone Dev-Team has released PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X which lets some iPhones upgrade safely to the 3.1.3 firmware.
Using PwnageTool to upgrade will preserve your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. If you are using the blacksn0w unlock at baseband 05.11.07 you will need to stay at 3.1.2.
—
iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak. Read more…

The iPhone Dev-Team has just released redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (No unlock for 3G), iPod touch 1G and iPod touch 2G (older Non-MC models only). Do not update to iPhone 3.1.3 firmware yet if you want to preserve your unlock for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G (new models) and iPod touch 3G. This is because the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware updates baseband to 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which makes it impossible to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS and 3G.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9, a cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing tool for iPhones and iPod touches. This version adds support for the iPod touch 3G as well as IPCC tethering.
How is it different from blackra1n?
- It offers custom logos and verbose boot
- It installs Cydia, afc2, and the IPCC tethering hack without needing separate downloads. Because they’re all installed in one go, redsn0w doesn’t need the multiple levels of installs that blackra1n requires.
- It uses their original Pwnage bootrom exploit for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod 1G. (Because it’s a bootrom exploit, it can’t be fixed by Apple without a new hardware release.) Note that redsn0w 0.9 does use the USB exploit for iPhone 3GS and iPod 2G+3G running 3.1.2, but that exploit will be fixed in Apple’s next FW release. Read more…

The iPhone Dev-Team has released a beta of RedSn0w 0.9 which performs jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing for the latest iPhone firmware.
Customizations include boot logos, recovery logos, and “verbose” boot.
The beta supports:
- All iPhones and iPod touches except the iPod touch 3G
- Windows and Mac OSX (x86)
- Apple firmware 3.0 and 3.1.2
When it’s out of beta, it will support the iPod touch 3G, PPC OSX, and Linux. Read more…

I know that many of our readers will be traveling during the holiday season, so I wanted to share a walk-through that will help keep your MacBook of choice connected on the go. This is an article intended for those using iPhones on carriers that do not officially support tethering. TUAW would like to remind you that this is unsupported and is enabled at the user’s own risk. This does require jailbreaking your iPhone, so the unadventurous in the audience may want to pass this up. If you’re not already jailbroken, you can download the necessary software, like blackra1n from George Hotz or Pwnage from the iPhone Dev Team.

Okay, so remember how we told you that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) modified new iPhone 3GS’s to prevent current and future jailbreak exploits? Right, well, turns out that wasn’t as true as we once thought. Our bad. New iPhone
3GS’s have been modified, that much is true, but they can still be jailbroken (which is where we were wrong). The iPhone Dev Team is now saying that Apple may have killed the “24kpwn” exploit that allowed the current jailbreak to work, but it’s more of a bump in the road than an all-out roadblock against future jailbreak attempts.
