Worm Rickrolls Unsecured Jailbroken iPhones Via SSH

November 09, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

For the last few days, some jailbroken iPhone users have found their home screen background a little different than they remembered. A hacker, going by the name “ikee,” created a worm that changes the home screen background on jailbroken iPhones whose owners failed to change the default password after installing SSH. Simply jailbreaking your iPhone will not make you vulnerable to this sort of hack. The iPhone OS, in general, is also immune to this hack. Still confused? Let’s back up a bit.

Matthew Key, head of O2, told Times Online, “Once the iPhone becomes available on other UK networks, we will allow O2 customers to unlock their iPhones, although of course they will still need to honour any outstanding contract period they have. The hacker simply scanned for jailbroken iPhones with SSH installed and using the default root password. With this password he then sent what appears to be an SMS alert to the hacked phones that read,

“Your iPhone’s been hacked because it’s really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files.”

11 Apple iPhones Sold In China On Opening Weekend

November 03, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

As you guys may know apple and china have been in negotiations for the past year. An agreemant was finally reached and the iphone was to be sold in China this last weekend. Unfortunately only 11 iPhones were sold, ten on one day and 1 the next. It is said that the official iPhone didn’t sell because of the black market iphones which come unlocked and have wifi enabled are a better deal. I myself believe the iPhone’s in China are way overpriced as an iPhone under contract with China Unicom for two years will run you at about ¥20,000 (3,000 USD). That is more than what an average Chinese worker makes in a year..

AT&T activates 3.2 million iPhones in 3Q

October 23, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Reports of trouble for AT&T’s 3G network have done nothing to keep people from the iPhone in the U.S.

The nation’s second largest wireless carrier announced third-quarter earnings Thursday morning that were full of iPhone goodness. AT&T (T) activated a record 3.2 million iPhones in 3Q, 40% of which went to people new to the company.

Wireless data was the supporting star of the show. Services such as messaging, Internet access and the like were up 33.6% from 3Q of 2008 to $3.6 billion. Data sales now account for 29.4% of AT&T’s wireless revenue.

The company’s earnings were relatively flat, having posted a profit of $3.2 billion, or 54 cents a share for 3Q ‘09 versus $3.23 billion or 55 cents a share for 3Q of ‘08. AT&T did, however, bring in enough to beat analyst expectations. The street was only looking for earnings of 50 cents a share.

The “geniuses” at the Apple Store in Vermont have probably run into all sorts of excuses for broken iPhones, but they just didn’t believe Kris Rowley. “A bear ate my iPhone,” she told them.

This summer, Rowley was hiking in the woods of Vermont when she felt a predator’s eyes following her. Rowley stopped dead in her tracks. A young bear slowly emerged from behind an evergreen tree. Rowley, CISO for the State of Vermont, knows about facing down malware–not avoiding a mauling.
