Fingerworks Content Pulled Before Apple Tablet Announcement

January 11, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The content of Fingerworks.com has been removed this week after remaining online for nearly 5 years after the acquisition of the company by Apple. The removal seems to correspond with the impending announcement of an Apple tablet later this month. One possible explanation is that Apple will finally be implementing many of the same advanced multi-touch keyboard gestures that were originally pioneered by Fingerworks.

Up until last week, Fingerworks.com retained photographs and details about their multi-touch keyboards and gesture pads they released for Macs years ago. In fact an old press release describes the benefits of their Multi-Touch system in a combination keyboard/touchpad: Read more…

Use a Wireless Keyboard With Your Jailbroken iPhone

December 26, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

A few days ago, the BTStack keyboard package was released to Cydia. This package, which we posted about recently, allows owners of jailbroken iPhones to use a Bluetooth keyboard with their iPhone 3G or 3GS, or 2nd generation or later iPod touch. The package is available for US$5.00 from Cydia.

Since the iPhone was first introduced, there have been efforts to bring support for external accessories. The iPhone 3.0 external accessory framework allowing accessories that connect to the universal dock connector or use Bluetooth has been closed, and only a few companies have developed accessories using the framework. The BTStack project by Matthias Ringwald offers a more complete and open Bluetooth stack for jailbroken iPhones. The stack has even been used with an iPhone and a Wii Remote over Bluetooth. Use Your iPhone as a Proximity Key to Lock/Unlock Your Mac

December 05, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Kentucky-based The M.H.A. released their Mac-based security program Airlock on Tuesday. Airlock unlocks your Mac when you approach it, based on the proximity of the Bluetooth transceiver on youriPhone (or later-gen iPod touch). The Mac will lock when your device leaves the preset range, but Airlock also accepts your account password as backup, in case the device is unavailable or its battery dies: since you’ll be leaving Bluetooth turned on all the time, the battery will drain even faster than normal.

Expose Comes to the iPhone Coming Soon

October 15, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

After seeing a concept video of Expose for the iPhone, Steven Troughton-Smith has created the real thing.

Troughton-Smith is the creator of the amazing Stacks utility which lets you stack icons in your iPhone dock, just like in Mac OS X.

After seeing the Ocean Observations concept video we posted several days ago, he has created Expose for the iPhone.

Noting that it should really be called Spaces, Troughton-Smith has posted a demo video of his working application. You can check it out below.

There are still some changes being made including possible UI tweaks. We will let you know once it becomes available.

What If There Was Springboard Expose for the iPhone??

October 05, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Swedish design firm Ocean Observations has created a video to show how expose might function on the iPhone.

The video shows the home button functioning similar to F3 on Mac OS X. Pressing the button shows thumbnails of your different Springboard pages; letting you jump quickly to the one of choice.

Not sure how this idea would work with more then 9 pages.
