Att Fighting

AT&T is clearly not going to take it anymore. Today, they blasted back at Verizon for the nasty ads about AT&T coverage.

In a press release today, the communications giant pulled out all the stops:

“AT&T’s wireless data coverage reaches 303 million people – or 97% of the U.S. population, where they live and work.

AT&T is the #1 network for smartphones, with twice the number of smartphone customers than Verizon, our closest competitor. Some of the reasons include:

O2 will allow customers to unlock their iPhones once Orange begins selling the iPhone on November 10th.

Matthew Key, head of O2, told Times Online, “Once the iPhone becomes available on other UK networks, we will allow O2 customers to unlock their iPhones, although of course they will still need to honour any outstanding contract period they have. At the end of their contract period, they are entirely free to move to another operator — though naturally we hope they won’t want to! ”

Data Usage

Yesterday at the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2009 conference, both FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega gave keynote addresses. While Genachowski stressed the importance of developing “sensible rules of the road” for wireless network neutrality, de la Vega strongly urged that wireless networks must be managed, repeatedly suggesting that net neutrality regulation would let a few heavy data users “crowd out the many” on its 3G data networks. Verizon Attacks AT&T, Apple in New Ad

October 06, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Verizon has launched an offensive against AT&T and Apple in their latest video ad.

The ad mocks the iPhone “There’s an app for that” ads with a slogan of their own, “There’s a map for that”.

“If you want to know why your 3G coverage works so well on Verizon Wireless? There’s a map for that.

Or why you can watch video at 3G speeds almost everywhere? There’s a map for that.

And if you wanna know why some people have spotty 3G coverage? There’s a map for that too.

Yep, with 5x more 3G coverage then the nation’s number two company, There’s lots of reasons to switch to Verizon wireless.”

MacDailyNews notes that, what Verizon offers is a 3G network that’s larger, but slower; V-Cast videos (yuck); and crappy app-less phones that don’t measure up to iPhone, so users barely use them to tax Verizon’s network. It’s easy to boast about network quality, when you have nothing stressing your network. We’d rather live through AT&T’s growing pains, enjoy their largely hands-off approach (especially vs. the dictatorial device-limiting Verizon), and be able to keep our iPhones, thanks.
