Dev Team Releases 4.0 3G Beta Jailbreak For Cydia Devs

April 15, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days.

Please not that this beta is not meant for the average end-user. There are many things “broken” with jailbroken apps in the 4.0beta1 environment right now (that’s the real reason we showed “Veency” in the 4.0 jailbreak demo video last week, instead of say MobileTerminal.app, which is broken!). This beta redsn0w allows the developers behind those jailbroken apps (like MobileTerminal.app!) to fix their software before the general public gets iphoneOS 4.0.

Dev-Team Releases Official RedSn0w 0.9

January 31, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9, a cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing tool for iPhones and iPod touches. This version adds support for the iPod touch 3G as well as IPCC tethering.

How is it different from blackra1n?
- It offers custom logos and verbose boot
- It installs Cydia, afc2, and the IPCC tethering hack without needing separate downloads. Because they’re all installed in one go, redsn0w doesn’t need the multiple levels of installs that blackra1n requires.
- It uses their original Pwnage bootrom exploit for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPod 1G. (Because it’s a bootrom exploit, it can’t be fixed by Apple without a new hardware release.) Note that redsn0w 0.9 does use the USB exploit for iPhone 3GS and iPod 2G+3G running 3.1.2, but that exploit will be fixed in Apple’s next FW release. Read more…

Redsn0w & PwnageTool May Be Updated for iPhone 3.1.2

January 06, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

MuscleNerd is reporting that he has recovered the long lost source code to redsn0w and may update it to support 3.1.2.

yay, managed to recover the long lost source code to redsn0w :) ..will port it to 3.1.2FW if there’s any interest (mac+win+linux)

Redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G/3GS and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). It is available for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows but has not been updated for the latest firmware.

*Update: Looks like Redsn0w will be updated and get a new boot logo feature. Take a look at the screenshot below…

*Update 2: Seems PwnageTool will be ported to Windows and Linux as well.
