Cydia Payment Method, Appsidy Shuts Down

May 10, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Appsidy, the in-Cydia payment system alternative to the Cydia Store, is shutting down.

Opened a little before Christmas 2009, less than half a year later marks the close of the Appsidy store. Recent Cydia updates addressing privacy (Appsidy used the UUID of your device to verify sales, as does the Cydia Store) broke Appsidy’s ability to function well within Cydia, and after discussing the situation, they’ve decided to toss in the towel. Some of you might be wondering why the new jailbreak “Spirit” did not install the Rock App., Or why Appsidy did not work after the Cydia update. Well let me share with you what I know.

The first thing you should know is that Appsidy, Rock Your Phone (Rock App), IntelliBorn are all the same people. Yup thats right. Last year when Appsidy first hit the scene, I made a blog post about it and the man himself Saurik, actually commented on the blog post saying: Read more…

Appsidy New Cydia Store Payment Method and Sauriks Thoughts On It

December 21, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

As the iPhone becomes more and more popular to the world there is no doubt that jailbreaking the iphone has also gotten very popular. As a matter of fact jailbreaking the iphone has gotten so popular it has been featured on many reputable websites such as cnet.com, tuaw.com, and the list goes on. My point is that jailbreaking the iphone is allowing us the users to be able to do more than we could have imagined whether it be making our iphone a wireless router, to allowing us to make voip calls using skype and 3g unrestrictor.

Now that you know where jailbreaking the iphone is going we can speak of cydia and the business aspect of jailbreaking. For you the user jailbreaking is to get all of the goods but for developers it is like a gold mine with a lot of revenue potential. A year ago you had to purchase an application from cydia by downloading an app and paying the developer however he wanted you to pay whether it was through paypal or some other payment type. New iPod Touch Speed Tests Up to 50% Faster Performance

September 16, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

At Apple’s “It’s Only Rock and Roll” media event last week, the company introduced new iPod touch models with 32 GB and 64 GB capacities, advertising the devices as offering “up to 50 percent faster performance”. Macworld has performed speed tests comparing the new iPod touch to the previous-generation model, and found that on a number of tasks the new model does meet or exceed Apple’s performance claims.

The speed tests conducted were similar to ones run in June on the iPhone 3GS, and while the new iPhone running Apple’s just-released iPhone OS 3.1 was not included in the latest comparison, the new iPod touch appears to even be slightly faster at some tasks than the iPhone 3GS.

But it’s not just in benchmarks such as these where the new iPod wins out. Just as the iPhone 3GS was faster than the iPhone 3G at everything, the new iPod touch feels much faster at any task you throw at it: applications launch (and quit) faster, Web pages load more quickly, processor-intensive games and programs perform better — you name it.

We’ll be testing the latest iPod touch’s performance — compared to both the previous touch and the iPhone 3GS — for our official review, but it’s clear that Apple has beefed up its newest touchscreen device.

3G S Users Say No To RockYourPhone 2

September 11, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Rockyourphone

RockYourPhone has released their v2 client. Now, I have not looked at this client yet. Let me state that I am not bashing rock your phone and have not made a determination yet whether or not it is great or terrible. What I can tell you is that if you are on a 3gs you should not install this until a 3.1 jailbreak is released.

As I already posted, the 3gs can no longer be restored to 3.0 or 3.0.1 anymore. If you update to 3.1 on your 3gs you may never be able to jailbreak again.

Rock your phone installs its own extensions and modifies a lot of system files. It is not installing just “an app”. They replace mobile substrate with their own version and the two may or may not work well side by side. Some thumb C function injection is likely to be broken. In normal cases, a simple restore would solve whatever issues you run into, but as things stand, you cant restore. So again, a very strong warning. If you are on a 3gs, do not install RYP2 at this time. If you want to test it, use a 2g, 3g, or wait for 3.1 jailbreak.

Note: this warning also applies to other software, but most stuff in cydia community sources can be repaired fairly easily without a restore using SSH.
