New International iPad Pre-orders To Ship June 7

That was fast. Apple has updated international websites to note that iPad pre-orders accepted from today on out will ship by June 7th. If you’ve already placed an order, you can still expect to receive your shiny new device on May 28th.

It was just this week that Apple began accepting pre-orders from the U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Spain and Italy with a ship date of the 28th. Could it be that they’ve exhausted that initial supply in two days? If so, “selling like hotcakes” is an understatement. Read more…

International iBookstores Opening On May 28th

When iPads fall into the eager hands of Apple fans in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK on May 28th, the iBookstore and Apple’s free iBooks e-reader app may be there.

Apple has confirmed that iBooks and the iBookstore will be available in all of the listed countries with the exception of Germany and Switzerland, and we’ll be sure to update this post as soon as we’ve received word that those two countries have been added to the list (we’re starting a rumor here that Apple has to stock up on digital umlauts and eszetts before opening these iBookstores). iPad Ships April 3, Preorders To Start March 12

Today Apple announced that the iPad will ship in April, writing that the device will “be available in the US on Saturday, April 3, for Wi-Fi models and in late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models. In addition, all models of iPad will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK in late April.” Consumers will be able to pre-order their units starting March 12th, with pick-up at Apple retail stores. FLAG Solutions, the developers of Thief Buster Antitheft Alarm, has released the app’s latest update. Thief Buster is real anti-theft software, complete with biometric fingercoding, motion detection, proximity sensor and volume blocking. It is the only application available that restarts itself if a would be thief tries to turn it off. The app is a very serious security measure against iPhone theft but still has the fun feel of a James Bond gadget.

Pre-paid Chinese iPhone Could See 10M Sales A Year

Despite a slow start, Apple’s smartphone presence in China could grow to 5 million iPhone sales per year — and could even double that if the company were to offer a lower cost prepaid model.

Analyst Katy Huberty with Morgan Stanley issued a note to investors Friday stating that she is bullish on the prospect of improved future iPhone sales in China. This week, Apple executive revealed that more than 200,000 iPhones have been activated since the handset launched on carrier China Unicom last fall.

Huberty noted that the current install base of unlocked iPhones in China is about 2 million, according to a new study conducted by Morgan Stanley. That is already similar to the largest European and Asian countries. Read more…
