Bill Gates Unimpressed By Apple iPad

February 11, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, a longtime proponent of tablet-style computing and touchscreen devices, has said he is not impressed by what he’s seen of Apple’s iPad.

The multi-billionaire spoke with Brent Schlender of BNET and admitted that while he became envious of the iPhone, the iPad has not elicited the same reaction from him.

“You know, I’m a big believer in touch and digital reading, but I still think that some mixture of voice, the pen and a real keyboard — in other words, a netbook — will be the mainstream on that,” Gates reportedly said. Read more…

McGraw-Hill Spills The Beans On An Unreleased Apple Tablet??

January 26, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

McGraw-Hill’s CEO Terry McGraw is obviously very excited that he’s been asked to work with Apple on a brand new type of computer, and he just couldn’t wait another 24 hours to tell somebody — he showed up on CNBC today to talk about his company’s latest earnings, and he more or less spills the beans, saying that Apple will “make their announcement tomorrow,” that the tablet will be “based on the iPhone operating system,” and that it “will be transferable” (so anything on iTunes now will go straight on the tablet?). Is Apple Really Going For iPad Trademark??

January 22, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Even though the WSJ pretty much broke the story on next week’s tablet announcement (when the mainstream media prints something as true, it’s true, right?), that hasn’t kept the crazy tablet rumors from coming in. Earlier in the week, MacRumors and the no-comment-on-the-name JesusTablet.com delivered more evidence that Apple is fighting for the “iPad” trademark. While it’s already nailed down the name elsewhere, in the US, Fujitsu actually originally applied for the moniker, though Apple has made the case to the FTC to pick it up since Fujitsu has “abandoned” it and no one else has used it. iLounge has double confirmed with sources that the Apple Tablet will have two dock connectors and an antenna compartment.

Double Dock Connectors
We’re hearing that the tablet is going to have one on the vertical bottom edge and one on the horizontal bottom edge, enabling this device for the first time to be both mounted and charged either in portrait or landscape mode. If Apple allows multiple accessory connections this could offer some other nice benefits as well.

Sources Detail Physical Design of Apple’s Upcoming Tablet!!

January 21, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

When Apple finally takes the wraps off its long-anticipated tablet next Wednesday, the device will strike a familiar chord with owners of the original iPhone, with similarities in industrial design trickling all the way down to the handset’s button and connectivity components, AppleInsider has learned.

Nearly two and a half years have passed since AppleInsider exclusively reported in September of 2007 that the Cupertino-based gadget maker planned to follow the blockbuster success of the iPhone with a broader entry into consumer electronics, spearheaded by a completely new category of device akin to a “slate” and reminiscent of a modern-day reincarnation of the company’s now defunct Newton tablet.

Since then, Apple has surprised in its capacity to work alongside dozens of partners and still maintain a relatively tight lid of the product’s design, feature set, and software-driven functionality. Though recent weeks have been met by a flurry of reports on Apple’s likely intentions for the device, a 28-month trail of rumors and speculation have left onlookers with exponentially more questions than answers.

Apple Tablet in ‘Full Production’???

January 16, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

An analyst at AVI Securities says the Apple tablet is “in full production”.

The information comes from “a maker of components going into the Apple tablet,” according to analyst Matt Thornton. “It’s been in the supply chain for a while and entered full production this month. A couple of suppliers actually had weaker Decembers than they would have expected because production was pushed back a little bit,” he said in an interview.

Apple Tablet Causes Shortage of 10.1inch LED, OLED Screens?

January 12, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple may have pre-ordered the entire available supply of 10.1-inch multi-touch display LCD and OLED screens for its upcoming tablet, according to TGDaily.

“We were designing a product for a customer and we needed 10 inch screens, but we’ve been trying for months and can’t get one from any of the Asian suppliers,” an anonymous designer for a firm wishing to remain nameless told TG Daily.

“We were told that Apple pre-ordered them all. All 10 inch LCDs, and all 10 inch OLEDs too,” their source continued, redundantly adding “it’s for the Apple tablet.”

Speculation On Apple Tablet Costs

January 07, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

With a rumored Jan. 27 event fast approaching, speculation regarding Apple’s still-unannounced tablet continues to mount. This week, one analyst shared alleged information on the device’s internal components, while another attempted to project the cost of its parts.

Analyst Ashok Kumar of Northeast Securities spoke with AppleInsider this week about the device, which is expected to debut this month and ship in March. Kumar said the tablet processor will be manufactured by Samsung and will be based on the Cortex-A8 ARM architecture. He believes it will have a speed of about 1GHz.
