With their upcoming tablet, Apple may be offering the flexibility that many prospective U.S. iPhone owners have wished for: carrier independence. This would mean that customers will be able to choose from a number of mobile providers for their Tablet’s data service when not near a Wi-Fi hotspot. This would allow Tablet users to browse the web, check their email, and more wherever there was 3G service. Such connectivity is taken for granted on mobile phones such as the iPhone, but is increasingly expected for other mobile devices. Read more…

Apple Markets Tablet to Australian Media Companies

October 27, 2009 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Apple is reportedly in discussions with Australian media companies over including their content on the rumored tablet device.

The Sydney Morning Herald says the tablet is tipped to be a larger version of the iPhone. It is small enough to carry in a handbag but too big to fit in a pocket. It will have a touch screen and be targeted at users who mainly want to surf the web, read books and newspapers or watch movies.

Supposedly Apple sent tablet specifications to the media companies in an effort to figure out if they would be interested in delivering their content on such a platform. None would speak about the device on the record.

Apple reportedly did the same to US companies such as the New York Times last month.
