That was fast. Apple has updated international websites to note that iPad pre-orders accepted from today on out will ship by June 7th. If you’ve already placed an order, you can still expect to receive your shiny new device on May 28th.

It was just this week that Apple began accepting pre-orders from the U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Spain and Italy with a ship date of the 28th. This will come as a disappointment to our international readers, but it seems that Apple has pushed the international iPad release back an entire month.

The iPad’s UK page used to say “Coming late April.” Today that was changed to “Coming late May.” The good news is that Apple has set a pre-order date of May 10th in the UK, Canada, France, Australia and Germany.

In a press release today, Apple said that the iPad’s US popularity is to blame for the lag: “Demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad.” Apple also said they sold more than half a million iPads in the first week.

Large-scale layoffs have been hitting everywhere in the past year, and Electronic Arts is now no different: according to Gamasutra, the game publisher announced today that it will lay off 1,500 workers by April 2010, after posting a year-to-year decrease in revenue and a net loss of $391 million.
