Apple Bans Protective Screen Films From Apple Store

iLounge is reporting that Apple has banned protective screen films from its retail and online stores. Several film-screen manufacturers have confirmed that Apple’s ban will take effect in May. Multiple vendors told iLounge that Apple has said that it will remove both film-only solutions from its stores, as well as any case or other accessory that includes film protection as part of its package, such as cases that include film screen protectors. Steve Jobs Says No Tethering Between iPad and iPhone

Steve Jobs appears to have fired off a tersely worded email reply to a user in Sweeden who asked whether the WiFi-only iPad could be tethered to the iPhone: “No.”

Jezper Söderlund of the Swedish website Slashat.se reports that he sent Apple’s chief executive an email identifying himself as an Apple customer before adding, “I’m also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question: Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?”

The full email headers Söderlund forwarded to AppleInsider appear to indicate that Jobs sent his one word reply at 8:30 AM from his iPhone. Read more…

iPhones You May Want To Eat

We’ve had coverage of other iPhone edibles before, in particular the many cakes that have been created since the iPhone first came to life in 2007.

Now, via Cult of Mac comes word of iPhone cookies from several bakeries around the globe. The first, as seen in the photo at right, is from the Green Gables Bakery in Japan. It has a “camera” indent on the back, a nicely framed display on the front side, and icing app icons and markings all around. These cookies appear to be made of gingerbread, which should be enough to make you begin drooling. Read more…

Apple Bringing Sexy Back, Making “Explicit” Category on App Store?

Mixed reports have emerged that Apple may have created a new “Explicit” category for app submissions using iTunes Connect. Last week, Apple removed as many as 5,000 titles from the App Store that it determined were inappropriate for some users. The dragnet caught some apps but left others – like Playboy and the Sports Illustrated swimsuit app – still available for download. Some devs, however, have said that the new category does not appear on their iTunes submission screens.

The latest, by Etsy shop owner and artist “PlayingGrownUp,” is the cool iPhone Chalkboard (US$25.00 plus shipping), The chalkboard is hand cut and painted to look just like the iPhones that Mom and Dad use. iPad Demand Exceeds Pre-launch iPhone Demand

A new survey suggests pre-launch demand for the iPad is greater than that of the iPhone before it first launched.

AppleInsider reports on a RBC/ChangeWave survey which found that 13 percent of respondants are likely to buy Apple’s forthcoming iPad, a number greater than the 9 percent who planned to buy an iPhone before its launch.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky said the responses from 3,200 participants show strong pent-up consumer demand for the iPad.

Evidence Suggests Video Chat for Next iPhone

New evidence found in the iPhone SDK supports the rumor that the next generation iPhone will support video chat.

9to5Mac has found a few icons in the SDK that seem to “indicate that there will be video calling on an iPxxx device.”

Additional evidence was found hidden in the underlying iPhone telephony apps which contain some “VideoChat strings that are equally, if not more, damning evidence of future VideoChatting capabilities.”
