He fought long and hard against the web standard for video and a common video format and he practically destroyed it. But it seems that the web gods must be some crazy hairy palmed folks, because they are not smiling down on his royal Steve-ness.

Today, YouPorn ( 18+ ) announced that they are busy encoding their entire video library into HTML5 format, and therefore it will be available on any iDevice in this world.  It will be just a matter of time until the rest of the adult industry will embrace HTML5 too, and then what Steve?

Police were alerted to investigate Brian Hogan’s possession of the prototype iPhone after his roommate called Apple Security out of fear she might be considered an accomplice in the theft.

A new report by Kim Zetter published by Wired identified the roommate named in the affidavit, and reported that she contacted contacted Apple after Hogan connected the prototype iPhone to her computer.

The investigating detective wrote in the affidavit that “[The roommate] contacted Apple in order to absolve herself of criminal responsibility.” The tip resulted in police preparing a search warrant for Hogan’s apartment. Read more…

When announcing the iPad, Apple promised that all 3G models would be unlocked. Turns out that is not the case.

The iPad releases to nine additional countries on May 28th. Eight of those countries will get an unlocked iPad. Japan will not.

All Japanese models will be SIM-locked to Softbank Mobile, Apple’s iPhone partner in Japan, Apple said late Monday. The company confirmed the presence of a SIM lock but couldn’t immediately explain why it was enforcing the restriction in Japan. Read more…

Comedian Ellen Degeneres claimed she upset Apple officials with a parody of the company’s iPhone commercials, prompting the talk show host to apologize for jokingly portraying the touchscreen device as difficult to use.

The general look and feel of the prototype iPhone recently discovered and disassembled will likely be very similar to the final shipping product of the next-generation handset Apple will release this summer.

Citing sources familiar with Apple’s fourth-generation iPhone, Daring Fireball’s John Gruber revealed that the barcode affixed to the prototype device obtained by Gizmodo, which read “N90_DVT-GE4X_0493,” gives insight into how far along Apple is in the design of its next-generation phone. Steve Jobs appears to have fired off a tersely worded email reply to a user in Sweeden who asked whether the WiFi-only iPad could be tethered to the iPhone: “No.”

Jezper Söderlund of the Swedish website Slashat.se reports that he sent Apple’s chief executive an email identifying himself as an Apple customer before adding, “I’m also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question: Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?”

The full email headers Söderlund forwarded to AppleInsider appear to indicate that Jobs sent his one word reply at 8:30 AM from his iPhone. Read more…
