International iPad Release Pushed Back

April 14, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

This will come as a disappointment to our international readers, but it seems that Apple has pushed the international iPad release back an entire month.

The iPad’s UK page used to say “Coming late April.” Today that was changed to “Coming late May.” The good news is that Apple has set a pre-order date of May 10th in the UK, Canada, France, Australia and Germany.

In a press release today, Apple said that the iPad’s US popularity is to blame for the lag: “Demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad.” Apple also said they sold more than half a million iPads in the first week.

More Magic Tricks For Your iPhone

March 23, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

I’ve enjoyed reviewing some of the clever magic tricks that are getting developed for the iPhone over the last year, and I want to be sure to point out Magic Card which is clever and will likely fool the uninitiated.

Here’s what the spectator sees: a person cuts the deck to select a card, which is kept face down. You use your iPhone to take a picture of the card, either alone on the table, or as I prefer at the top of the stack. The spectator sees you select the camera icon and take the picture. To be sure the picture wasn’t taken in advance the spectator can put something in the picture like a ring or tableware next to the card to prove it. Read more…

iPhone Photo Makes UK Tabloids Look Foolish

March 04, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

It doesn’t take much to make yourself look like a fool, but in the case of The UK’s Sun and Daily Mail newspapers, they have to be feeling quite idiotic right about now. Perhaps not, as these tabloids have a history of running fabulous stories about celebrities, politicians, and the supernatural as a matter of daily business.

John Ware, a 47-year old builder, sent the newspapers a photo he had taken with his iPhone that allegedly showed a ghostly little boy dressed in turn-of-the-20th-century clothing, balefully looking at the photographer. You can see the little boy at the right side of the photo, standing in the foreground. The papers dutifully ran the story, with the Sun’s example shown at the top of this post. Read more…
