BiteSMS 5.0 Coming Soon

Martin a bite dev, has announced the first beta release of BiteSMS 5.0. The up and coming update is going to bring a lot of new features, one being sms ringtones per contact which is already included in the first beta release. For more info:
After using 5.0 beta the custom ringtones feature is very well implemented and simple to use. Just go into BiteSMS settings and you’ll see the ringtones settings section, your first time in ringtones settings bite will automatically add custom ringtone settings for your first 5 latest converstations. You then have the ability to select a contact and choose which sms tone you want for each and every single one of them.
This being a first beta release, you don’t have the ability to choose your own ringtones. You can either use the default apple sms tones or BiteSMS’s old car horn sms. Although limited, it is a big step in the right direction. BiteSMS is a fully feature txt messaging app replacement for Apple’s not so great sms app. You can install BiteSMS from cydia (must be jailbroken) and purchase a license for $8.99 at bitesms.com. A list of the upcoming features below:
Out Now In Beta
- Support for Ringtones per contact (first cut).
- More iPhone 4 hi-res graphics.
Coming Soon In 5.0
- Auto-resend for failed messages.
- Contact picture in the conversation (done really nicely and just once!).
- Ability to easily see recent messages for a given contact in Quick Reply. So it’s much easier to see the context of a new message.
- Improvements to Quick List and Quick Reply so that unread messages are grouped via a given contact name. So if you have 3 pending messages for a contact, you’ll see them grouped in Quick List together “as a conversation”. When you choose it, all 3 messages will be grouped into one cohesive Quick Reply window to action as a single reply.
- Ability to use your Ringtones in biteSMS, configurable down to each contact.
- Support for skype from Quick Compose and Quick Reply (new skype button).
- Support either (or none) Apple’s character counter or the biteSMS character counter. Why? because in some specific languages (e.g. Korean) Apple has better support for special characters.
- Full support for Bluetooth Keyboards.

Bitesms definately has more features but ireal has some other features like quickreply mms or quicksend mms. I was a die hard ireal fan back in the day but the slow updates and lack of feature implemantation made me switch to bite and im not looking back

I’ve used bitSMS for a long time now. Even paid for it because te devs really put a lot of meat and potatoes in there. Ibhavent used the stock messages app since iPhone 3G. I still can’t believe apple hasn’t stepped up there game with the stock app.
