How To Save Your iPad, 3GS, iPod Touch SHSH File

April 30, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

To everyone that wants to be sure and get there shsh’s saved before sauriks server gets slammed with shsh requests from every jailbroken user in the world plus the new ipads on the market, I suggest you get your shsh blobs now. The main reason i say this is because saurik can’t handle all requests at one time and sometimes you will get a pending message when you open cydia. Remember that spirit is a user land jailbreak meaning that Apple is going to release a new firmware very soon after it’s release so for those of you who aren’t at the front of the line getting your shsh’s saved with sauriks server using cydia and your pending, say goodbye to your shsh blobs since apple stops issuing those as soon as a new firmware comes out and that is where saurik pulls your shsh’s from.. I apologize for the long rant but I just want my readers to know its better to be safe than sorry.

Did The iPad Kill Microsoft Courier tablet?

April 29, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Microsoft’s Courier project was an exciting and fascinating concept. When it first appeared last year, the folding two-screen tablet was one of the most incredible things we’ve seen out of Redmond for a long time. Similar in concept to Apple’s Knowledge Navigator concept device, Courier used a combination of touch and pen-based computing to generate a lot of buzz and interest about what was going on in Microsoft’s labs. Hogan says he regrets not doing more to return the device to its owner, according to a statement provided by his attorney. Although he was paid by tech site Gizmodo, he believed the payment was for allowing the site exclusive access to review the phone. Read more…

Dev Team: Calm Before The Spirit Storm

April 29, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

At some point after (don’t ask when!) the iPad 3G is actually in customers’ hands, the first “userland” jailbreak since firmware 1.x will be released by @comex.  It’s called “Spirit” and was first demonstrated working on an iPad by @MuscleNerd within 24 hours of the iPad’s release on April 3.

Userland jailbreaks are more troublesome for Apple since they expose security weaknesses that exist even for non-jailbroken owners.  As such, Apple is likely to close them soon after they’re made public. One recent example of this is the SMS vulnerability exposed at Blackhat last summer.  Apple released new firmware to close that hole within a day. Read more…

Apple Visited iPhone 4G’s Finder Before The Police

April 29, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

With all of the chaos going on around the lost iPhone case, everyone has more or less assumed that Apple is behind the police department’s actions in searching Gizmodo Editor Jason Chen’s house late last week. Of course, no one believes that the sheriff is working for Apple, but most people seem to be under the impression that Apple wants to get to the bottom of the case, and that the company is pulling strings in law enforcement to try and do that. The Gizmodo iPhone Saga Flowchart

April 29, 2010 :: Posted by - SoSly :: Category - News

Fast Company has come up with an awesome Gizmodo iPhone Saga flowchart to help us follow the increasingly confusing case. The flowchart allows users to pick what they believe to be the true facts, and it lets them follow the trail to its “obvious” conclusion. Possible outcomes include: it was all an Apple conspiracy, bloggers are journalists, and Gizmodo bowed to corruption to get site traffic. So, where did you end up?
